Sleeper who is quietly climbing up the draft lists. He is a solidly built room for filling out three zone defenseman who has shown he can check and clear with ruggedness and hurt. He possesses a good point shot and one-timer, as he learns the nuances of the way NHL power plays now attack. Is a very good long passer in transition. Rugged player with a heavy shot. Wins the battles down low, but his feet have to get lighter, and needs a bit more lateral agility. A strong physical player all over the sheet and especially noticiable in the corners and the front, expect his name to be called, and a patient team may have a real find. can separate attcakers from the puck. An offensive side amy come at a later date.

Scout's Take: “He’s the top [defensive] prospect in the draft locally. He’s got a heavy shot and skates well. Plus, you get a four-year projection on him as a true freshman headed to college. He’s got a chance. He’s the youngest of four boys, so he’s been pushed around a bit and that’s made him tough to play against. He’s gone a little under the radar.”

Florentino is a solid two-way defender what has some serious upside. He skates well but could improve his first step and short range lateral agility. He has a solid frame to him and uses it in all aspects of the game. A ‘grab the puck and clear the zone’ type, Florentino doesn’t project to play with much offensive creativity at the next level; a simple meat and potatoes style. He has the ability to shoot a pass up the ice to his forwards but will not likely be one to carry it through the neutral zone himself very often. He has a bomb from the point but will need to work on getting it off quicker. He does his best work deep in his own zone. A hard working, all-in every shift player that plays the game with a high level of energy. He is a physical player who sometimes looks like he hits opponents to hurt them. He uses his size well to separate the puck from the puck carrier and quickly turn the play back the other way. Florentino shows a very good compete level and solid work ethic. A team leader both on the ice and off it. His game -- no matter the potential he shows -- is extremely raw and will need ample time to develop. The Providence College commit will get plenty of time to round out his game. He has the potential to wear a letter at the next level.

2012-13: Florentino attended USA Hockey's Select 17 Development Camp before returning to South Kent and skating for the Select Academy U18 team. Playing in the year-long program, he scored 21 goals with 32 assists and had 68 penalty minutes in 62 games. Select Academy's U18 team entered the US Elite Hockey League championship weekend as the top seed but after defeating the New Jersey Hitmen in the semifinals lost to the Junior Bruins in the championship game. Fiorentino was ranked 75th amongst North American skaters in Central Scouting's final rankings prior to the 2013 NHL Draft.

The stocky blueliner had a nice season for the Selects, playing physical, defensive-minded hockey on a nightly basis and flashing a little offensive ability in the process. He’s not the most agile skater, but he moves well for his size and can carry the puck up ice while building speed like a freight train. His hands are quick enough to make some plays and he gets good shots on net from the point, though he probably won’t be a big point producer at the next level. He’ll be able to clear danger with safe outlets and occasionally lug the puck, but his bread and butter is hard-nosed, positional defensive coverage. He impresses with smart reads against the rush, maintaining an active stick and stepping up to play the body when he can. He’s aggressive behind his net and protects his crease with intensity, though he can get so caught up with laying contact in his end that he loses focus on the play and floats out of position. His footwork is an issue at times, especially when he jumps into the attack and doesn’t hustle back to his end. He’s strong enough positionally that his skating will do him fine if he doesn’t try to do too much out there, but he could stand to add a step. He’ll suit up for Providence next season and looks like the type of blueliner who’ll benefit greatly from the physicality of the college game.

A mean, hard-hitting defender from the Selects Academy program at the South Kent School, Florentino is just solid all the way around with virtually no weaknesses to his game. He is an excellent skater who locks in defensively while using good vision and a heavy shot to be a consistent offensive catalyst. On top it all is his vocal leadership skills and passion for the game. No one questions Florentino's effort. The fact that he's committed to Nate Leaman's rising program at Providence College makes him even more attractive to the Sabres.

Strong, hard-nosed defender .. captain of his team .. militant and punishing presence - finishes checks hard, exploiting a thickly-built frame .. diligently plays the body - eagerly looking to catch opponents with their head down .. hits shows impressive timing and power .. good skater in parts - turns, pivots well, boasts a decent transition step .. quickness needs to improve, particularly his first few steps .. not as comfortable in reverse - can be slow making the turn defending a quick outside rush .. maturing puckmover - decently skilled - makes a solid first pass .. could be more adventurous at times - tends to hang back .. directs the power play effectively - won’t hesitate showing off a powerful slapshot and heavy wristshot .. can be more creative with outlets and clearances - rushes decisions - has more time than he thinks .. defensive game requires polish too .. must develop tighter structure and positioning .. doesn’t curb his enthusiasm enough at times - resulting in aggression penalties and positional breakdowns .. will attend Providence College this fall.
