Torts was asked if Duc is in the doghouse and he said no. Though I believe he also said recently that he and Duc have a difference of opinion on "what it means to play hard". Take that as you will.

Duclair has some legit defensive issues. He's one of those guys where his effort level is determined by whether he has the puck. He came here because he wanted to learn from Torts and Torts is committed to getting him to play the right way. That and the team frankly has no shortage of scoring wingers so it's easy to scratch him if he's straying from the system.

That and he doesn't really fit on any of the lines at the moment.

At least not as well as who he would be replacing.

Not all the time - he's making the effort now and again - but he still slips far too often to be relied upon full-time.

We're trying to learn him, and hopefully it'll work.
