What other goaltending prospects will be at our camp in a few weeks?

Wedge, Frazee, Kink, Clermont, A. Broduer?

Anthony Brodeur is just like us getting Mike Pandolfo, Parise's Bro etc... sit in our system a few years and then vanish into Europe

Back in 2000 there was this goalie that was taken 205...three picks higher than AB's 208...his team didn't see him a a big prospect even when he started to develop his team spent the 6th overall pick in 2004 on the top rated goalie in the draft...maybe you've heard of this 7th rd pick.. Henrik Lundqvist. So yes AB was Shatticks back up this year but you never know what 4 years of development against good competition can do. Who knows Schneider could be bookened by Brodeurs...oh and the number 1 overall pick in that draft just got bought out today in Rick DiPietro

I wonder where he learned that? :sarcasm:

I have no clue. ;)

I refuse to believe that this will happen with Tony.

He's only 18 so it will be up to him to work his butt off to become, at the very least, a solid NHL goaltender in the future.

I think he CAN accomplish at least this but I feel his ceiling is WAAAAAY higher....

He looks a lot better than the goalies Shattuck had when I played them.

Jeremy Brodeur is more likely to be an NHL netminder. He can have his brother back him up if Anthony works his tail off and gets lucky.

If jr can ever make it to Albany, that in itself would be a pretty cool thing. Think that would pump up Albany's attendance a bit, even if only for short time.

If he does, then that means that he is well on his way to developing into an NHL goaltender.

But it's all up to him right now playing in the Q....

My favorite part about this pick is how he only went three spots lower than Lundqvist in 2000. The way the league works now, there's no reason trying to predict a goalie based on his draft position or ranking. He may very well develop into an excellent goaltender and just the idea of that is really awesome.

Frazee may not be back. Especially with Schneider here now, I don't think we really need him anymore.

Frazee is definitely the odd man out, Kinky and Wedge will be splitting time for Albany next season and dueling it out for backup to Schneider in 2014. Unless Brodeur decides he's up for another season.

That is true. It's possible, though I think when Lundy was drafted he was older and had more experience including international.
I'm too busy to fact check that comment, but someone else feel free to.

Nah I don't mean to compare him to Lundqvist at all. You're right, that was a different situation. But getting drafted at similar spots just sorta amused me. Rinne's another guy who was drafted REALLY late, but he was 22 at the time I think.

Goalies are notorious for being late bloomers because so much of it is mental. You can look at a d man who's 6'5" but raw and it's easy to see the potential. Those kinds of goalies are harder to spot and more of a crapshoot as far as whether or not they will ever reach their potential.

Anthony was picked 7 spots before Scott Clemmensen was in his draft year. So we've actually had a goalie play for our NHL team that was picked later than him.

As intriguing as Anthony Brodeur is, Clemmer was a lot closer to the NHL when the Devils drafted him. He was already at BC by then IIRC, which is a lot different than taking a goalie out of SSM. As much as Shattuck has been a factory for NHL talent, it's never been a good place for developing goalies. Parise's brother is the closest they've come to producing an NHL goalie.

If Crapper doesn't have that amazing run with Boston College in 01, then he might have even got lost in the mix. He wasn't anywhere near NHL ready when first drafted though. We actually drafted JF Damphousse in the first round in 97.
