If you are going to pull the New England card...

Brian Leetch, born in Texas, moved and played his entire hockey career in Conn.. Eric Weinrich? I only know because I played against both of them in tourneys.

Eric Weinrich:

He grew up in the small town of Gardiner, Maine, went to high school at North Yarmouth Academy in Yarmouth, Maine, and played his college hockey at the University of Maine, where he studied archeology and anthropology.[2]

Brian Leetch:

Although he was born in Texas, his family moved from there three months after he was born, eventually settling in Cheshire, Connecticut.

I moved Watson from left to right wing.

Man, what about Brian Propp on LW? Schmautz? Getzlaf might be an interesting pick for extra F. I'd put Wendel at F and put Redden or Neilson in there ...

Propp was a tough omission, would he fit in on the fourth line? Schmautz is a good suggestion and is a way to do this exercise without switching any positions.

I thought a short while about having Getzlaf as an extra F and Ward as the third goalie, but decided not to include either of them.

Team Michigan

M. Howe Rafalski
K. Hatcher D. Hatcher
Roberts Iafrate

Morrow on the third pairing or as seventh D, perhaps?

I'll do another one while I'm at it...

Yes, I realize that Finland is not a province, but population wise it compares well to Canadian provinces: if we were a part of Canada, we'd be between Alberta and Quebec in size with our 5,3 million people. So, let's see how our team would look like:

Finland

Tikkanen - S.Koivu - Selänne
Lehtinen - M.Koivu - Kurri
J. Jokinen - O. Jokinen - S. Kapanen
Leino - Helminen - T. Ruutu
Peltonen

Numminen - Timonen
Lumme - Ruotsalainen
Pitkänen - Salo
Lydman

M. Kiprusoff
Bäckström
Rinne

Not surprisingly, we are quite thin on skaters but have nice depth with goalies. Would be a fun matchup against some of those provinces for sure, just not Ontario or Quebec!

Trying to stick with positions here. A lot of tough choices to be made there especially on D where it seems Ontario has just an endless supply of HOFers and future HOFers. Could probably make a pretty good 2nd team too.

You could probably make four pretty decent ones. I've made 3 here:

Team Ontario A

Ted Lindsay - Wayne Gretzky - Charlie Conacher
Bobby Hull - Stan Mikita - Bill Cook
Frank Mahovlich - Howie Morenz - Babe Dye
Aurel Joliat - Frank Nighbor - Hooley Smith

Bobby Orr - Larry Robinson
Denis Potvin - Red Kelly
Brad Park - Tim Horton

Ken Dryden
Clint Benedict
Bill Durnan
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Team Ontario B

Toe Blake - Phil Esposito - Cyclone Taylor
Busher Jackson - Newsy Lalonde - Didier Pitre
Cy Denneny - Steve Yzerman - Jack Darragh
Bill Barber - Milt Schmidt - Bobby Bauer

Paul Coffey - Scott Stevens
Earl Seibert - Chris Pronger
Dit Clapper - Lionel Conacher

Hap Holmes
Tony Esposito
George Hainsworth
------------------------------------------------------------------

Team Ontario C

Roy Conacher - Frank Boucher - Rick Middleton
Syd Howe - Syl Apps - Tommy Phillips
Brendan Shanahan - Alex Delvecchio - Ace Bailey
Bob Gainey - Ted Kennedy - Steve Larmer

Hap Day - Bill Quackenbush
Rob Blake - Ebbie Goodfellow
Harry Howell - Georges Boucher

Roy Worters
Alex Connell
Gerry Cheevers
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Other notables:

C: Dale Hawerchuk, Eric Lindros, Ron Francis, Nels Stewart, Joe Primeau, Darryl Sittler, Mickey Mackay,

LW: Steve Shutt, Woody Dumart, George Hay, Reg Noble, Dick Duff, Bob Pulford

RW: Punch Broadbent, Dino Ciccarelli, Mike Gartner, George Armstrong, Alf Smith

D: Allan Stanley, Leo Boivin, Doug Wilson, Larry Murphy, Harry Cameron, Eddie Gerard, Hod Stuart

G: Harry Lumley, Curtis Joseph, Hugh Lehman

I love how with Ontario, great players like Hawerchuk, Lindros, Francis, Sittler, Ciccarelli, and Gartner don't even make the cut for Team C.

A PEI team would consist of

Gerard Gallant - Brad Richards - Al MacAdam
Erroll Thompson - John Chabot - Bob MacMillan
Wes Trainor - Steve Ott - Billy MacMillan
Maynard Schurman - Dave Cameron - Charles Cahill

Bob Stewart - Adam McQuaid
John Hughes - Ken Paynter
Nathan McIver - Mark Flood

Gary Simmons
Drew MacIntyre

That's an NHL caliber top-6, but the rest is horrendous. If Darryl Boyce sticks around as a good checker, he could be the 4th line center. Nothing else of note.

With that, here's a combined Atlantic Canadian team:

Bobby Smith - Sidney Crosby - Gord Drillon
Gerard Gallant - Brad Richards - Glen Murray
Errol Thompson - John Chabot - Al MacAdam
Mike McPhee - Steve Ott - Bob MacMillan

Al MacInnis - Flash Hollett
Don Sweeney - Bob Stewart
Keith Brown - Colin White

Gary Simmons
Roland Melanson

Decent team, but the goaltending really isn't there. Maybe one of Cleary, Clowe or Ryder could be switched to the left?

Good team, however you have to have John Mayasich over Peluso. Another name is
Steve Christoff, was a terrific talent derailed by injuries early in his career.

I understand but seriously Jay Miller? Fan favorite but nothing but a goon who I always liked. At left wing Adam Brickley was hands down better than Miller and I didn't put his name down. Name one player not deserving at left wing than Tkachuk, Donato, Pandolfo or Stevens and Miller can be put in. Come on..Nilan, again another fan favorite but does not beat out guys like Steve Heinze, Steve Leach Brian Noonan or even Joe Sacco.

I can't stand "always hurt" Dipetro and I believe Schneider in the end will have a much better career.

Taglianetti? Fair to middling player, not better than the other 6 including Gill.

And I guess I did miss Whitney who should replace Hal Gill immediately.

Mike Fidler (Charlestown) was a more highly skilled player than Jay Pandolfo. You also omitted Tom Rowe from Lynn who was the first US player to hit 30 goals in 1978-79. Rowe and Fidler were both '56 DOB and were very talented. On pure talent only Stevens, Tkachuck, Young, Guerin, Amonte, Ftorek, McEachern & Hebner were more talented Massachusetts players. Rowe and Fidler IMO were better than Donato & Pandolfo.

I was just thinking about an All-Time team for Alberta born players. Mine would probably be:

Bucyk - Messier - Iginla
Ray Whitney - Ullman - L. McDonald
Smyth - Brent Sutter - Doan
Craven - Unger - Linden
Barnes

Niedermayer - Gadsby
Babych - Sydor
Wesley - M. Green
Bouwmeester - J. Smith

Fuhr
Vernon
Osgood

This team has 6 Hall of Famers, 2 near-locks, and a couple with an outside shot. I left two HoFers off because of naivete: Herbie Lewis & Neil Colville. I also left off Phaneuf because he may or may not be an alien lifeform.

What would it be for your province/state?

Nice team, but gimme Cam Ward. If Ward isn't unanimously considered a better goaler than Osmediocre when it's all said and done, then I'll drink a beer with my ass.
