Most 2nd round picks and beyond take 3-4 years to properly develop from junior to contributing NHL players.

Last I checked the Leafs only have Kadri (7th overall) and Rielly (5th overall) on their roster.

Of course that doesn't stop some people from reminding us how great our later round picks are going to maybe be.

Pfft I wasn't pointing to us as am example as a way to do it. Leafs do seem to be somewhat decent with later round drafting though. Kulemin, Reimer, Stralman, Hayes and Gunnarson have at least had NHL success and can be those meat and potato guys.

That is why the oilers rebuild has failed.
