Renaud confirmed at the intermission the new GM will absolutely be French speaking. Tender and Lapierre saying they think it'll be a younger guy like Darche with guys like Gorton helping.

Sounds like Gorton could fill the overseer role that Rick Dudley filled for Marc Bergevin.

Not sure why his name gets that much attention.

He wasn't doing/saying much on RDS/L'Antichambre, outside of being the biggest Carey Price cheerleader.
He did not fit there. He’s got twice Bergevin’s brain.

To be fair, last year was the best year we had since 1993.
No. We sucked all season long, were worse with the new coach than with the previous one, and were 1 game away from being kicked out in the first round. Only a meeting held by the vets (Perry) manches to get the team going for the playoffs. Same that was in a session where we faced bad teams more often...

We got further down the playoffs, true, but in a regular season we wouldn't even have made the playoffs.

Team was much better around 2008-2009...

There is a thread already for that info.

Shit is happening and it's about time.
With Gorton as your President or director of whatever, he can hire Darche and work in tandem with him.

Gorton is a very good GM and talent evaluator, it's kind of a way to circumvent your french speaking GM criteria where the actual GM speaks french but the one calling the shots is an anglo.

It has the vibes of Musai Ujiri of the Raptors or Mark Shapiro with the Jays, they running the show without having the GM tag.

This means though that they have interviewed other candidates that have better fit then him. Looking forward to how this turns arround and if it does.

Mellanby may end up as Benning's replacement in Vancouver. He did work with the Canucks when he began his career in Hockey Ops.

Also, even though he was Assistant GM with the Habs, he lived and worked from St. Louis, where he lives (not uncommon for front office guys to live in different cities. They still travel everywhere).
