I think a new RTS being announced is pretty great. Hope it's good.
What's the era though?
Looks like ancient to colonial?
Hmm, I thought the trailer was just showing all the previous stuff that the Age of Empires series has covered, and the final narrator line meant we were looking at a different era/region of civilization.
It doesn't really matter. I just hope it's good.

Personally, I'd bet it's Classical/Medieval because Relic already has a "modern" game in Company of Heroes, and since Microsoft will be publishing this, I doubt they'll go for space either because that's too close to Halo Wars 2. I'd double down on Classical/Medieval given all that's been invested into the AoE1 remaster and the expansions to AoE2 a decade later.
It also revealed that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, with 4K graphics, a remastered soundtrack, and improved gameplay, will be released on October 19. Even better: Age of Empires 2 and 3 will be getting the same treatment.

The re-masters that they put on Steam were... lets say cheap and didn't change much because the studios were under obvious limitations.
This AOE: DE looks like a much more serious update to graphics, sound, interface and gameplay... and they're going to move down the line of games.
I have already signed up for a chance to get in the beta and have preordered a copy for myself because the original was my favorite and it's coming out in October.
I'm absolutely thrilled that Microsoft is finally giving this series love again. AoE1 is one of my favorite games. AoE2 was very good, but I've always been more partial to the ancient setting of the original.
I know AOE2 was probably a little more popular but AOE1
I definitely prefer the ancient setting too. The series is basically responsible for my interest in that historical period and I did take a few courses on classical Roman history because of it.
The only RTS better than AOE2 (Age of Kings) was Rise of Nations. A sequel to RON would be the only RTS news better than this. Obviously some people here like to stay in a certain age, I prefer going from cavemen to stealth bombers.
Oh and the people who said they never played 3, you really should. It's a good game that got unfairly dumped on because it followed up a legend.
Is October 19 the same release date across all platforms? ie, will I be able to download it off steam and play it immediately assuming my computer can handle it? My laptop plays AoEII just fine, so hopefully the remake of AOEI isn't too much more taxing.
