He literally just skated straight down the ice and pushed a billiards shot through the goalie?

Was this even during a game?

Yeah the defensive effort was pretty poor but how many Defensemen in the NHL have the poise and skating ability to still take those lanes and get to the net?

Note how Fox is literally crossing his feet over the entire time, changing which way he's crossing over a few times through the rush. I think the 'hip' term for that kind of skating is 'linear crossovers' that scouts gush over. Not a lot of NHL dmen have that kind of skating ability with the puck on their stick.

Poor defense and a nice goal don't have to be mutually exclusive.

As much as this conversation errs toward the Devils' lack of defensive aggression, Adam Fox is definitely not known as a skating/scoring defenseman, so their anticipation of him making a pass was fairly well-founded, and it speaks more to his versatility.

Still, poor coverage in-close.

This kid has the highest level of poise since Karlsson.

Everyone's always talking about Makar, Hughes and Hesikanen ... Why not Fox? He's right up there.

Right now, I'd take Fox over Hughes and he definitely hasn't had the supporting cast that Makar and Heiskanen (during his initial years, had Klingberg, Lindell, and even Oleksiak playing their best hockey), which helps development exponentially and makes defensemen look better on most nights.

Fox is so good, but they might want to play defense on him. Takes away from an already good goal that he looked poised to score even if the Devils did more.

Flames drafting has been one of the best in the league since 2015
Lol. You always kind of hope that players that walk away from your team will become the next Erixon, but Fox is legitimately a great player.

The league definitely needs to close that college loop hole. With the increased popularity of hockey in the USA, we are likely to see a lot more players going the NCAA route.
