There’s no way Marchand is getting in no matter what the guy does on the ice. He can’t even weasel his way into a Horton’s commercial!

Here's my list of active players whose career numbers and accomplishments during their careers so far make them locks for the Hockey Hall of Fame.

My main criteria is if they retired today, they would make the hall after the 3 year waiting period.

Patrice Bergeron
Patrick Kane
Connor McDavid
Drew Doughty
Jonathan Quick
Marc-Andre Fleury
Sidney Crosby
Evgeni Malkin
Kris Letang
Steven Stamkos
Victor Hedman
Andrei Vasilevskiy
Joe Pavelski
Brent Burns
Alex Pietrangelo
Alex Ovechkin
Nicklas Backstrom

Some others are close and very probable, like Mackinnon, Matthews, Draisaitl, but don't yet have enough years of sustained high level performance to be in the lock category.

Who would you add or subtract as locks from this list?
Crosby, Jonathan Toews

very underwhelming resume. Take out team accomplishments and not much left. 2nd team allstar and 1000 games ..WOW..... Only scored over 70 points twice in 14 yrs. If someone looked at his career without knowing who the player is they would say no to HOF. Only 852 career points and a lot of undeserved hype
you gotta look at the players they let into the hall. if Carbonneau is in, Toews is a stone cold lock of the century of the week.

I think Roman Josi might have the chance as well.

I wouldn't say Makar, because he's too young.

but he has a norris, a cup and a playoff MVP

If they retired today:
Bergeron
Chara
Crosby
Doughty
Getzlaf
Hedman
Kane
Karlsson
Keith
Kopitar
Kucherov
Malkin
McDavid
Ovechkin
Price
Stamkos
Thornton
Toews
Weber

Almost there:
Draisaitl
MacKinnon
Makar
Marchand
Matthews
Vasilevskiy

Possibly:
Backstrom
Fleury
Giroux
Josi
Letang
Suter

Matthews and Vasi are in I'd say Leon and Makar too

Bit of an odd list and several omissions that will almost certainly make the Hall.

Pavelski’s been a good player for a long time, but him making it would really tarnish the Hall.

Who would you add or subtract as locks from this list?
Patrice Bergeron - Great player, depending on the other nominees, he might take more than 3 years.
Patrick Kane - Lock
Connor McDavid - Unless there's a major accident or he's cancelled, he's in.
Drew Doughty - He'll get in.
Jonathan Quick - Goalies are difficult.
Marc-Andre Fleury - Goalies are difficult, but he'll get in.
Sidney Crosby - He was a lock 12 years ago.
Evgeni Malkin - See above.
Kris Letang - Probably, but I doubt it's within 3 years.
Steven Stamkos - Ask Melrose.
Victor Hedman - Lock
Andrei Vasilevskiy - Goalies are difficult, but he's got the hardware.
Joe Pavelski - Borderline, but he'll get in after Mogilny or whoever.
Brent Burns - some great years, but it's not automatic.
Alex Pietrangelo - see Burns, above.
Alex Ovechkin - Lock
Nicklas Backstrom - Might take longer than 3 years, but he'll get the lesser Makita treatment.

If we're focusing on Backstrom and the d-men you listed, the obvious omissions are Toews, Kopitar, Thornton, and Karlsson.

Letang isn't getting in.

I haven't heard anyone say that Mark Giordano should be in the HoF, and Giordano has more hardware and is considered a much stronger defensive player while still having more career points than Letang.

I barely saw Duncan Keith’s name in this thread. The guy is a slam dunk Hall of Famer, probably first ballot.

2 Norris trophies, Conn Smythe, 3 Stanley Cups, 2 Olympic Gold Medals.

There’s no way in hell that guy doesn’t make the Hall of Fame, no way.

Edit: forgot he retired, my bad
