Speculation: A minor shake-up trade

Two years ago on November 4th 2013, the Flyers were 4-9 and had scored a paltry 1.62 goals per game. Holmgren had just traded Max Talbot for Steve Downie, who got badly hurt in his first game. But when he came back he formed a very effective line with Read and Couturier that helped drag the Flyers out of the hole they were in.

Is there a trade Hextall could make now that might have the same effect? Not a trade for a great player or even a good one, but someone who can provide a spark to a team that has lost it's confidence. The Flyers are 4-6-2 and have scored 1.92 goals per game, so there is still some hope that things could turn around. But I think it requires Hextall to take notice of this season's slogan, and be a little bold.

Would rather just have the team stink, trade off non-core assets for picks and continue the re-build.

To play in what position?

I'm sure Boston would happily move him since he's only played 2 games this season.

I got to think Hexy's hands are tied. Flyers do not have many valuable trade chips. Even for a minor deal.

I know, he isn't what he used to be. Was more thinking about a player like he was in 2011/12. It really looks like Bellemare has been the only reason the 4th line was effective.

Would you guys add a 2nd round pick to Lecavalier to trade him for Lupul with the Leafs retaining salary?

We have Chicago's 2nd next season so I'd give that up to finally end the Vinny saga. I think he might waive to go there and actually play eveyr game, not just when two forwards are injured.

Is this Lupuls last year, if so absolutely. Maybe add Luke and have Leafs retain nothing ?

As a shake up move, Read for Burmi straight up. Gets us younger and cheaper and the Jets may consider as Burmi doesn't appear to be the Frolik replacement they may have thought.

No, Lupul has as much term as Vinny. If we traded for him we'd probably have to buy out Umberger in the summer, freeing up $3m in cap space.

I'd consider it assuming we could move Lupul later too. I'm not too keen on the idea of losing a 2nd just for cap purposes.

I wouldn't, and I might hate Lecavalier more than anyone else here.

I'm not expecting much this year or next year so Lecavalier, while is insanely frustrating to watch, isn't going to hurt the future of this team. But a 2nd round pick could end up helping, either by drafting a good prospect of using it to move up like we did for Konecny.

# good shake up trades would give us something new to watch as this group is boring. All of the forwards need perfect passes to do anything and still don't. No forecheck at all with aggression. Defence is what it is but the puck still gets in the other teams end to cycle and this team sucks at it.

The only move I'd make would be to unload one of our defensemen. I move Streit if the package is good, but I bet you could get a lot more towards the trade deadline if they continue to be as god awful as they have been.

I think they could get a decent return for Schenn (if they retained salary, which, why the hell not?)

I think the Flyers should unload Manning if they can, especially if they unload him into the cargo bay of a rocket and set a course for the sun.

I wouldn't be trading assets to gain cap space right now, I would rather them continue to stock pile so that as some of the kids start to mature they have some trade ammo to help solidify the roster.

Lupul is a solid player when healthy, but he hasn't played a full season for ages and wouldn't come off the cap for two more years.

If we have to throw-in a second rounder, I would want to have significantly less cap hit coming back.

Shake up trades are to get the team playing better. Hextall is trying to get a dynasty built, that's the goal, if any trades are made, its to be a better built team in 2016/2017/2018

Here's what I notice. We are losing games because are team is too slow. The only way we get better is if we change our team from within. Here's how I would make our team faster.

Send Umberger + Manning to AHL/Waivers. L Schenn gets traded for a pick.
Call up Cousins + Leier + Gostisbehere.

Voracek doesn't score at even strength. Laughton and Simmomds have speed and grit. Perfect with G.
Cousins Leier and Gostisbhere bring offence and speed.

Laughton--Giroux--Simmonds
Read--Couturier--Schenn
Raffl--Cousins--Voracek
VandeVelde--White--Leier

Gostisbehere--Streit
Del Zotto--Schultz
Medvedev--Gudas

absolutely not. Hording picks. The only thing the cap is doing is preventing ourselves from signing overpriced mediocre UFAs.

Nobody that good hits UFA for reasonable term/value anymore.

I'm on board with your idea of replacing Umberger, Manning and L. Schenn with Cousins, Leier and Ghost, but I don't know if that would work out salary wise.

Also, your D pairings are a little funky. Schultz is better on the left and Ghost with Streit would be the same MDZ with Streit. Ghost isnt ready for top pairing duty. Hell he might never be a top pairing defensemen. Seems more like a 2nd pairing defensemen/PP specialist. Spread out the offensive ability amongst the 3 pairs.

Medvedev-Streit
Del Zotto-Gudas
Schultz-Gostisbehere (playing right side in LHV I believe)

I vote no to the Lupul deal.

All our deals need to have the future team being the main oiece to improve. This deal helps us now, but hurts us long term.

With Marti and Hagg coming back off of injury, that gives us our depth back in the AHL. Once we know the status of Medvedev, then Schenn can be moved.

Schenn will likely be the 1st move we make.
