I know this is a completely typical reactionary thread, but Toronto needs a better backup. Unfortunately they cannot afford anything beyond bare minimum salary. Looking for trade options with retention, what’s out there?

Montreal may trade Kincand. Primeau is getting close to taking his place.a late round pick in return. A 4th?

Idnt he supposed to replace Quick for the future? If not:

Ceci
Hutchinson
Bracco
2020 3rd
2021 2nd

for

campbell
Martinez

Id be happy enough for campbell to stick around, but we do have peterson coming through. You're probably not a mile off value wise (although we could possibly do better closer to the deadline)

iblove that even when trading for a back up Leaf fans cant make a good offer

holy **** it is not that hard just offer a couple picks not all that garbage

A couple of ufas to balance cap probably isnt an issue, we could also retain cap to squeeze another pick or something

Keep in mind the whatever "competent backup" being traded to leafs has to cost next to nothing because of their cap situation. That's why Hutchinson fits so well. He makes league minimum.

Leafs need up add toughness, a couple of defenders and upgrade their bottom 6 before addressing their backup goalie. Backup goalies don’t play in the playoffs in game 7 against Boston.

Very reactionary when the loss should fall on the rookie mistakes by veteran defenders Ceci, Muzzin, and Rielly.

Less reactionary when you realise Hutch has been a problem in every game he plays.

It's not all on the defense. He's got a tough job, sure. Playing behind a tired team, and not getting the easier matchups. But at sone point it's clear that he can't do the job. Over 4 goals a game is bad.

Actually, I think is all defense unless yes Hutch's numbers are bad but he's not Freddy. What do you expect from a back up who is playing in front of an already shaky d.

As long as Leafs are cruising into the playoffs they aren't going to do anything. They only might do something a) at the deadline as an insurance policy for PO or 2) if Anderson's injury forces their hand.

Leafs need a back up to make sure we get to game 7 against Boston.

Andersen has been stellar but Hutch has helped us collect 1 of 10 pts.

A competent backup goalie can at least string together a few wins when called upon to start, thus giving the Leafs those extra points needed so that just in case they DO make it to Game 7 again, that game is played on home ice for once.

Garrett Sparks' inability last year to be more than a pylon in goalie clothes, cost the Leafs some valuable points that ended up biting them in the ass last season and was arguably the difference in finishing third behind Boston instead of second.

For whatever reason, Kyle Dubas opted to go for another shaky backup this time around, and the (very) subpar results shouldn't be surprising to anyone.

Dubas seems unwilling/unable to properly fix this backup goalie issue, and it may very well cost his team yet another chance to win their first playoff round in fifteen years.

Exactly. Right there, 9 points down the drain because Hutchinson isn't doing the job.

Of course, this could partly be on Babcock and his baffling inability to rotate goalies in back-to-back games. Andersen always gets first game and Hutch gets the second so he's at a disadvantage....especially if that second game is against a better team.
