What?

There are four scenarios

1. Coyotes win, other team played well
2. Coyotes win, other team didn't even try
3. Other team wins, Coyotes played well
4. Other team wins, Coyotes didn't even try

I see a lot of 2 and 4 this year. Is that straightforward enough?

Sure.

I guess I look at it in 3 ways:

1. Coyotes played superior to the opposition
2. Coyotes played equal to the opposition
3. Coyotes played worse to the opposition

You will get a lot more wins if number 1 happens. You will get a lot more losses if number 3 happens. Number 2 is kind of a crapshoot.

The fact is that while we have not always looked great, the other team is not gifting us wins. There have been some really good moments out there that I feel like we are not being given credit for. Our play may have directly had an impact on a team like the Ducks or Kings playing so poorly. We have also had games where we played poorly but fought back in the game (MIN or NJ). I think that when we have lost, we have had more of #3, and that is what is taking away from the idea that we have actually had more #1 games in our wins than realized. That's where I was saying that you can't have it both ways, b/c it seems like regardless of win or loss, you are saying that we have looked very poor overall (the exception being PIT game). It looks bad in the losses, but I don't think we have looked incredibly poor in the wins.
