Our team is shit and will be shit for a long time
I believe they will turn it around faster than you think.

Despite the fact that they will finish around 7th worst record-wise, they have been competitive for the majority of games this season; even against all but the best teams.

Most here expected a worse performance and record even WITH Couturier and Atkinson in the lineup, instead of both missing the entire season.

And they have some young players with promise who either showed substantial development this season (e.g. TK, Tippett, York), or who are likely to make the team next season (e.g. Foerster, Desnoyers). Plus more on the cusp (e.g. Andrae, maybe Brink), whomever they pick in the top 10), and others two seasons away (e.g. Gauthier).

Plus Couturier almost certainly coming back, probably Atkinson, too, and Farabee hopefully recovering from a disastrous season caused by the neck surgery.

We'll see what they do with off-season moves (JVR's contract gone; Hayes traded; and probably Provorov traded).

I'm not saying they'll be a playoff team next season, but I don't think the future is as bleak as you make it appear.

Meaningless games in a meaningless season.
They gonna finish 7th worst and the evil Hockey Gods will have them draft 8th or 9th overall. Great.
Is it possible to take that bet on Draft Kings or in Vegas? It would be a good way to hedge your happiness....

We should stop hanging our hat on the return of Couturier. Maybe he comes back stronger than ever, in which case, if we are lucky, we get 4 productive years at 80-90% of contract value. That would good considering he will be mid-30s soon. Most likely, between normal aging and a bad back, we get him at 20-30% of contract value, which is worse than him never being able to come back.......

Remember, this was not a good contract the day he signed it, with a "healthy" back.

Provorov never could pass. All he did was skate the puck up to the circle and snap one on goal. It used to work because opponents thought he was good and just played “contain” on him. Now they know his decision making process with the puck is bad so they just put a little pressure on him and he folds. It’s why ghost was good with him, ghost is good with the puck and Provy is good without it. But the Flyer’s continue to think Provorov is a 1 or a 3 when he is actually a 2 or a 4.

It was a great contract if healthy, the cap starts to rise next summer by about $4-5M a year with the escrow fund paid back. A healthy Couts would be a 1C for 2-3 more years and a 2C the rest of his contract. And the perfect leader for a rebuilding team.

Now whether he can return close to 100%? Stayed tuned.
