It doesn't favor anyone. It just reduces variance on some of the calls. The home team can just as easily be harmed by the extra angles as they can be helped.

It doesn't make the games called more fairly. It makes them called more accurately. It doesn't bias the calls differently than before.

Well I consider a "fair game" one to be one where there are less mistakes being made. I'd rather the Rangers play in games that are more fairly called even if it means this game would have been 5-3 instead of 5-2. It's better for the game in the long run.
