We're tied for 20th.

Do Jets fans think they are the crown jewel of the league because they appreciate the great rookie season Laine is having while they are in 24th?

Who cares about the Jets? They are not relevant in this discussion.

The flyers are tied for 20th due to some great puck luck during the 10 game winning streak unless you think they played well and earned every game. They should be sitting around 25th in the league. While Pittsburgh is a great team the Flyers seem to want to rise to the occasion of beating them and apparently from what I gather that team was gassed.

they shut out the 2nd best team in hockey but saying they played well is being a homer? ok then...

No the fact that he is implying that I will only join a GDT to write a bunch of negative thoughts on the team is being a homer.

MacDonald's a better option than Manning or Schultz. Carter is an All-Star and Team Canada regular.

Oh I remember now. You're the guy who was too lazy to take five seconds to check if Oskar Lindblom had played in the AHL before claiming he hadn't, and is so ignorant about the incredible season he's having as a 20 year old in the SHL that you can't believe people think he'll be on a Flyers scoring line next season.

Yeah because I did claim with absolute certainty that he hadn't played in the AHL. Must be hard for you to recognize when someone writes "to my knowledge" implies that they are not 100% sure of that statement.

They're 20th despite having the 29th best level of puck luck as measured by PDO.

if there was ever a way to measure whether a team or player has been lucky or unlucky, PDO might be it.

You can use statistics to keep judging this team but this team is living off the results of the #1 PP. When your ES scoring is on the level of the Avs there is something seriously wrong.

Let it go man. This forum is exclusively for tire pumping. Apparently to some people it is the crown jewel of the NHL when in reality they are at the bottom of the league.

I don't know if I'm more annoyed by the haters who shred him every time he has a bad game or the radical supporters who pump his tires to infinity every time he has a good game.

Give him credit when he plays well, but you really don't need to invoke the "haters" line EVERY time he has a good game. That's just the inverse of what the haters do every time he has a bad game...
Completely agree. The ones that celebrate each of his points like we just won the Stanley Cup are just as annoying.

Meanwhile Couturier has been the Flyers most productive regular player at 5 on 5 in the Hakstol era which now covers 151 games, a fact they refuse to recognize. They don't just complain about lack of PP production which has some validity, they just trash him in general to an absurd degree.
Schenn was our best 5on5 point producer last season, yet I never see you protesting when people call him a PP specialist.
Obviously, last season only matters when we're talking about Couturier.

Yawn, another silly exaggeration. Nobody actually does that.

Couturier scored at a higher rate than Schenn last year. 16-17 Schenn is a PP specialist in terms of production, and also possession numbers where he's been getting killed despite easy minutes. And Simmonds is not far off. I've defended Schenn where it's warranted by pointing out that his season is not that statistically different from Simmonds, and yet he gets way more flak.

lol...here is a good example of a Couts hater giving Couts PROPS after a night of helping to shut down Sid and Malkin, scoring a goal, having 8 shots, and 2nd player of the game.

see the bolded.

And now he's shutting down Sid AND Malkin!

He didn't shut down Bonino though, did he.

I mean really, settle down. He had a good game. He's had a couple of those lately, sprinkled amidst a mediocre season. You yell at me for only caring about the shots, or the stats (which isn't true at all but whatever), then defend him saying he had lots of shots.

Bit of a hyperbole really and I think you're reasonable when it comes to good ole Cooter. Some people just go overboard with their assessment on reality.

Provorov had a few bad turnovers last night but he's too new and shiny for someone to unfairly trash him for it, especially when overall he played very well. Give it a few years though, and especially if he doesn't stay on PP1 and break 40 points, there will be people who act like every mistake he makes supports their narrative that's he's not the top pairing defenseman they were promised.

Provorov did nothing even approaching the Bonino strip-from-behind.

That happened when it was 2-0 and the game was in reach. A Pens goal there, which there absolutely should have been (I repeat: how did Bonino not finish? Watch the replay, it's weird), completely turns that game on its head. It was nearly identical to his turnover against Boston that led to a critical goal.

Not one iota of concession from the fan club that it was a bad moment. I concede that his game was strong otherwise.

I give Provorov a pass, given the amount of minutes he plays, and the fact he plays in every situation (PP, ES, PK), and the extent to which he handles the puck, a certain number of mistakes are inevitable, ignoring his rookie status. Nor do I see him turning the puck over at a higher rate than most #1 defensemen.

Can he improve? Yes. I think in a couple years as he learns the league, he'll have a better sense when he can be aggressive and when he needs to get rid of the puck faster, but this will be a subtle improvement. I think the biggest uptick will be in the offensive zone, as he learns how to get the puck past shot blockers and becomes more aggressive attacking the net as he learns which teammates to trust to cover for him.
