All time series record: The Islanders lead 35-32-14. Islanders all time @ Oilers are 12-23-5

The Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders sit the bottom of their respective divisions.

Both clubs appear to be turning their attention to the future after moving key pieces before the trade deadline.

The Oilers try to avoid their first home loss to the Islanders in nearly a decade Thursday night.

The Islanders have taken two straight and nine of 12 from the Oilers, including a 3-2 home win Oct. 17. However, they have been outscored 9-3 during a three-game losing streak in Edmonton that dates to a 5-2 victory March 13, 2003.

The Oilers had been limited to two goals during an 0-1-2 skid before beating Ottawa 3-2 on Tuesday. Hemsky scored twice, Taylor Hall, who had a pair of goals against the Islanders in October, notched two assists and Ben Scrivens stayed hot with 34 saves.

Scrivens is 4-2-0 with a 1.84 goals-against average and one shutout in his last six starts.

The Islanders are coming off Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win at Winnipeg. Michael Grabner and Anders Lee each had a goal and an assist and Anders Nilsson stopped 36 shots.

Now that Thomas the tank engine is gone we'll probably win every game and move down too low in the draft to get a solid pick.

Still amazes me how much the Oilers struggle with all the #1 picks they've had over the past few years.

I'm so glad that Friday is the only game I'll be able to see for over a week. I'm curious to see how the rookies play, but man do I already need ANOTHER break from this team (considering that there was the Olympic break just 2 weeks ago).

That actually wouldn't be a bad thing in my opinion. I'm very hesitant to not have a pick in the '15 draft. If we bottom out again next year which with this teams track record is more probable than being a playoff team, I'd hate to not be in the McDavid lottery. If the team hit a hot streak now with nothing to play for and moved lower in the 1st round it probably makes the decision to give BUF this years pick easier.

I want us to punt this years pick unless we hit the lotto. This team needs to find a way to keep winning so we don't risk losing next years.

Oddly enough, I can actually see this team go on a run. We actually have pretty good scoring depth with Nielsen, Nelson and Strome each centering their own line. Our defense actually looked improved without MacDonald in the lineup, and Donovan has been deserving of more playing time.

Comes down to Nabokov, IMO. I'm hoping he can steal us a handful of wins. The best case scenario would be for this team to go on a bit of a run here, and either take Snow out of the equation as far as the draft pick goes, or at least make it into that 8-10 range to give him something to think about.

Hopefully the team being laughed at relentlessly sparks some inspired play. Lots of young guys with something to prove. Make it happen, Isles.

I would love this team to go on a tear being lead by the JT-less KO. Giving Buf the ********* ****ing pick we can.

Im hoping we lose every game 6-5...want the kids to have a great stretch but show that we need some defensive help and a goalie. Then draft one of Ekblad, Bennett or Reinhart...not giving up next years pick is just a golden ticket for Snow and Wang to say "they have a plan for the future"...which would mean lose alot next year also to draft Mcdavid...i cant live through yet another year of starting the season out looking at the following draft class

MattMartin thanks for doing the GDT and doing great job. It must be tough with the life sucked out of us, but your efforts are appreciated.
