I just realized we are only 4 points behind the ****birds. They have 2 games in hand, but still!

absolutely have to win this one if we want/have any chance of climbing metro. HUGE GAME.

this team is crazy good. I know we are in the thick of things in the playoff race but we are doing all this without lindblom (our 3rd best forward on the team when he was here and most likely still would've been), patrick, AND ghost really. Frost and farabee are still coming into their own. I know we all complain (me included) about giroux scoring and all but i think he would've had more points if we were healthy. It would've made him on the wing more and if the pp was clicking with ghost he would have more points as well. I definitely think we would've been in conversation of the #1 seed in metro IF we had patrick and lindblom here with us.

this is still all with ghost not even playing well, laughton and raffl spending the majority of the season in the middle six, pp being average, missing a center and a top 6 winger, and several rookies being integrated.

OH I FORGOT OUT STUPID SCHEDULE. Playing in europe, all these back to backs, the crazy schedule we had with avs-wild-and another team i forget...****ing hell

Not a fan of the Laughton/Hayes/TK line. It seems to neuter all 3 guys in terms of offensive output.

If Farabee is good to go, I'd go with Farabee/Hayes/TK.

I would sit Laughton for a game or two, but the most likely is that he'd go to 4C for Bunnaman.

C'mon boys, this is a huge 2 points.

A win in regulation puts us in 3rd place in the Metro

Win in OT/SO puts us in WC 1

Loss in OT/SO and we stay in WC2

Loss in regulation and Canes win and we are back on the outside looking in.

Laughton and Hayes were fine earlier, there's something physically wrong with Laughton, watching him on the breakaway, he looked painfully slow and never showed his normal speed.

Ryan Pulock ended up being a top pairing dman. Wish I'd known that would happen seven years ago.

Morin just shows there is something to be said for being "too big," some of the biggest overdrafts tend to be very big defensemen who aren't skilled enough to be top 10 picks - the triumph of hope (maybe he's the next Chara) over experience.

Even a healthy Morin was probably a solid 3rd pair, PK defenseman at best, a better version of Hagg, doesn't have the puck handling skills to be trusted in that role. And a big slap shot from the point works better at lower levels, as Myers is discovering.

Trotz may be the goalie whisperer, but he has had good goalies to work with in NY.

Varlamov last six seasons before the Islanders, .927, .921, .914, .898, .920, .908, so far this season .915.
He signed a 4 yr/$20M contract with the Islanders.

Griess put up seasons of .920, .908, .925, .913, .892 before Trotz, .927, .920 with Trotz.
The season before Trotz was an aberration due to the ridiculous scheme his predecessor installed.
He's on the last season of a 3yr/$10M contract.

I do think Morin would have been a good third pairing guy if he had remained healthy. Christ, he didn't miss a game thru injury in his first two pro seasons.

Yeah, I'm sure he would have. Possibly even 2nd pairing. That being said, you usually hope for a lot more when you pick a guy 11th overall.

Oh well. Hope he recovers, and manages to have some kind of career. Always liked Morin and was really looking forward to seeing him play.

Who sits tonight?
I'd vote for Laughton to get some time off and get healthy.
Frost wasn't great, but if the alternatives for 3C are Raffl or Laughton . . .
And Bunnaman is the best choice for 4C, he has been a good fit for that role.

Of course, after the beating TK took last night, we'll see if he comes out for the morning skate.
