Returning Forwards (9):

Thoughts = Move one or two if possible

Returning Contracted Forward Prospects (7):
Slafkovsky, Heineman, Kidney, Roy, Mysak, Farrell, Simoneau
Thoughts = Will need to reduce a few of our current Laval contracts to make room for the new guys

Prospects who have Contracts that could Slide (0):
Mesar, Beck
Thoughts = Beck back to OHL. Mesar back to Kitchener



Returning Dmen (9):
Matheson, Savard, Edmundson, Barron, Guhle
Harris, Wideman, Kovacevic, Xhekaj
Thoughts = Move one of the vets if possible

That puts us at 43 to 44 contracts. At 5th overall in the draft we might be getting someone who can play this year so we need to save 1 spot.

I believe this is Jared Davidson's last year in the WHL so hi might need a contract. Also Tuch & Smilanic might be done in the NCAA. If we add all three plus our first round pick we will be at 47 to 48 contracts.

That's not a whole lot of room for UFA's or the potential for MTL to take on a bad contract like we did with Monahan last season. Got to think HuGo will do their best to move a contract or two.

We need size and toughness….Pezz is a great 12-14th forward. Don’t get the hate for him. No playoff team is stacked with 5’6 - 5’9” players . I would keep both of them

Good to know. I guess we'll find out before June 1st his signing deadline.
Sounds like we won't see him in Laval until at least 2024-25 (or maybe next Spring like Heineman if his team has a short playoff run)

Less AHL games which iirc means he doesn't count towards the vet cap and doesn't need to clear waivers. Also signed by Hughes literally just one summer ago.

With so many young forwards coming to Laval in the next couple of years and serving as injury call-ups, the organization needs to find some stability in Laval by flexing some financial muscle. Instead of offering vets league minimum NHL deals, add an extra 250,000 and get them to sign AHL only deals, and surround the kids with the veterans that fit the mold of aiding in the development process, not ones trying to get called up to the NHL at the expense of the prospects.

CapFriendly does say something about not counting on the 50 contracts limit while in junior or european league, but never seen rules about contract sliding for 20+ yo guys (for example Norlinder didnt slide)

no, the slide rule is only for junior aged players. Dichow would count against the 50 no matter where he played next season if signed.
