Some are dictated by players:

TK blocked by Voracek on the 1st line, never was a good fit elsewhere (best on the 4th line)
Voracek off the first line to upgrade 2nd/3rd line, but this has hurt his production a bit.
Raffl off the 4th line to upgrade 2nd/3rd line, but weakened 4th line
Patrick and Weal finally getting healthy has dictated the success of the 3rd line
Switching to the 1-2-2 to protect the young defensemen
Knob has been trying different combinations on the 2nd PP once Couts settled into Schenn's spot on the 1st PP
Gudas started slow, baby, suspension, injury? Playing much better the last few weeks and back to his normal usage
Ghost bought into the scheme (playing responsible defense) and was promoted to the 1st pair.
Sanheim showed he wasn't ready and demoted to AHL to work on his game instead of buried on 3rd pair.

Some things are hard to fix, there is no replacement for Filppula right now.
Sanheim and Myers aren't quite ready for primetime, Morin is made of glass.
Lindblom's top 9 spots are taken by Raffl, who earned his promotion, or Weal, who is playing like the end of last season

Some things will change, I don't think Goul will be playing 5 minutes forever, either he'll show he can handle PK duties and a 4th line shift or eventually he'll be replaced by Leier or NAK or Raffl returning to the 4th line.
Lehtera will be pushed out at some point.
And this is all reasonable to say.

I do think last night was a bit of a scare to dressing Goule. Raffle got hurt and all the sudden, we are down to 3 lines. Benching Goule thru games so Jake could get some extra shifts has been fine, but we saw the bad side of it last night too.

That’s because there is only one explanation for it, and stating that explanation requires giving kudos to the coaching staff, and that is frowned upon here.

"You lie!"

I stopped read here.

HOW? HOW? HOW?!?!

Konecny wasn't a good fit with Filppula or a hobbled Patrick.
On the 4th line he could play "balls to the wall" and just skate and forecheck, which he's good at.
I suspect Konecny would be pretty good on the PK as well, and that may be in his future at some point.
On the PK, he'd be a SH goal threat.

Good point, would like to see him on the Kill.

One advantage of players like TK, and Laughton and Frost in a year or two on the PK is not just their speed harassing point men, but the threat they pose to take the puck, beat everyone down the ice and score. That makes you more cautious on the PP.

No diss to Couts, but he's not the fastest skater, neither is Giroux (distance) or Patrick, and Raffl and Leier aren't guys who scare you on a breakaway.

Am I missing something? Only 1 what? The final score was 3-2 so it couldn't be goals.

I also read that as a ????. They have to be talking about some stat other than the score ? There is no way their attempts to cause shit is that obvious ???

If this has been posted, better to be duplicated than omitted. From the NHL:

Travis Konecny is the second player in (team) history to score an overtime goal in consecutive team games in the regular season, joining Sami Kapanen from Dec. 28-29, 2005.

Another game with only 1 allowed and only 21 shots allowed too. This is becoming a pleasant habit, our defense is really stepping up and nobody is talking about it.

The defense was awful in the 1st and 3rd.

Shots on goal aren't everything.

Detroit had two point-black wide open nets they failed to score on that don't register as shots when they should have been goals.

It seemed like as soon as they called out "Here comes a 2 on 1" Hagg's controller disconnected. I was dying of both laughter and frustration as well.

He didn't know how to stay onside but still stay in motion and since his acceleration from a stand-still is shite, he became a non-factor on that rush.

For all the people who keep freaking out that people are still criticizing the team after wins...

The criticisms are still there because the problems are still there. Winning games on the backs of our top guys doesn't change the huge flaws in the roster and the coaching. When the team starts losing again - and they will - it'll be because of the same problems we've seen all year, including this hot period.

As much as the Hexy said we were just getting unlucky for good play on the 10 game losing the streak. The same could be said that we are getting lucky while the same play on this winning streak. Last night should've been a loss with Detroit scoring on the wide open chances.

Problems remain.

The criticisms are excessive.

Sure they need a bunch of upgrades, we all knew that in the preseason.

They played bad during the losing streak, Hakstol made some adjustments, they've been playing very good for a much longer stretch.

And it's not luck, 4-1 in overtime (i.e. most of their wins haven't been snatched from the jaws of defeat), and the underlying statistics support better play, other than the still putrid PK. Nor have they been carried by the goaltenders. And it's not the top players, they were scoring as much when this was a bottom ten team. The improvements have come from coaching decisions and Patrick and Weal playing better.

The only young player to disappoint has been Sanheim, unless you had high expectations for Leier. :naughty:
And it's not like Sanheim is a flop, just wasn't ready for primetime, he could easily turn it around in a couple months or next year. A little more time in the AHL won't hurt his development.

Morin is bad luck.
Lindblom wasn't ready, now it's just balancing whether you want him in the AHL or on the 4th line (until Weal lives up to Striiker's predictions).
Goul is a sideshow, at some point NAK is going to be on the 4th line.
Myers is on schedule as is Vorobyev.
MV got injured and slowed down, need to turn up the heat to get his promotion.
Martel was always swamp gas.

This season is "house money," like the Eagles after Wentz went down, ride it as long as you can.
The plan is still focused on the 2019-20 season.
