Can we keep this on topic please (I'm talking about all our dissent for Quaker State ads)? Just kidding!

I'm going to be a bit of a stickler and mention that you should really include that these are 5 on 5 numbers (actual points per 60 includes everything). I also feel that it is important to note that Giroux spent a large amount of time this year with Schenn on his wing, and Schenn has done an excellent job at killing his linemates' 5 on 5 production. Schenn is at .89 in case you were wondering.

Also, even though I shouldn't need to say this, VandeVelde's stats are a bit of an outlier. He's currently ahead of Cousins (1.49), Raffl (1.42), Simmonds (1.35), and Couturier (1.28). I think everyone in the world can agree that those players are much better offensively at 5 on 5 than VandeVelde—even Hakstol.

The VdV numbers were a joke, of course.

I think Giroux will age faster than Voracek because of both his size and his lack of top end speed, it won't make him useless, rather, his minutes should be gradually reduced (keep him fresh), and put him with linemates who can cover for him, and let him work in space where his instincts and playmaking ability can be best utilized.

This is why he's far more effective on the PP than ES, on the PP he has more space to work to make plays, at ES the ice is more "crowded." (Yes, it's easier to score on the PP, but why do some players excel and others are meh?).

I feel the opposite about Giroux. Since he doesn't rely on physical tools, he should be able to maintain a high level of play longer than the typical forward. High IQ playmaking forwards can last well into their 30's. It's players that rely on their bodies that tend to drop off rather severely. So long as he doesn't end up with a major injury, he should last a while.

On the other hand, I think someone like Schenn will crash hard as he approaches 30. Despite his current indestructibility, I think all the major hits he gives and receives will cause his body to give out.
