MOAR INEFFICIENCY EXPLOITING

~6' LHD

Was highly ranked by most publications but yet again - politics and market inefficiencies

Seen some conflicting reports on his size (EP has him at 5'11, Black Book 6'1). But a guy with potentially elite skating that is more of a physical defenseman than we're usually drafting. 8 Points in 29 (3/5) in the MHL this season and got into games at the KHL and VHL levels with the Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod organization.

From Black Book:
"If you’re an opposing forward, you need to be aware when you rush the puck towards his side of the ice. He’s always looking to throw a big hit. His ability to move laterally is excellent and very useful to cover tons of ice, but also to keep players on their toes. His compete level is very high. If he’s not throwing big hits, he’s still battling very hard and incredibly tough to beat one-on-one. Defensively, he has that whatever-it-takes mentality; blocking shots, diving by extending his stick to block a pass, big hits, crosschecks and overall nastiness."

Great late-round pick. A defensive defenseman that can actually skate really, really well. Yet again, they're likely never going to contribute outside of Trikozov, but all of these Russians are really nice Euro-stash fliers, and you just never, ever know.

Players move to SHL, Liiga, DEL, etc.?

I can't imagine they are going to prevent a generation of Russian players from developing.
Imagine it.

Look, everyone is entitled to be as rosy as they like here, but let's get real: Russia under Putin is *insanely* revanchist. The worse it gets, the deeper he's gonna dig his heels in, because that's how Uncle Vova rolls, and all of the babushkas with him.

From a hockey perspective, that could easily mean the nationalization of the KHL and the de facto conscription of every young player currently in the league, salaries be damned, or you can go hang out with your friends in the Arctic Circle until you decide that it's more fun to play hockey. If you think that's impossible, or even unlikely, then I don't think you've been paying close enough attention.
