I dont think so. I think if the Avs give him full term, 6-7M is where he lands.

From a cap perspective it would work. But no chance Ottawa Iis moving Brady.
Time will tell. I remember when Avs fans thought they get nuke back 4ish. I said 6 people thought I was crazy

Yea Utah too but convincing Mikko to re-up there might be difficult as he doesn't know what to expect since they don't have a history.

Don't forget that the trade needs to happen this summer, it's very quick.

With Seattle Mikko already has friends over there like Gru and Bura who could help selling the move to him.
Arizona he wouldn't for sure but Utah?....It looks a lot more promising being a new market with owner ready to spend. There is a better chance he signs there than CBJ that's for sure. But yeah Mikko willing to re-sign with the new team will be an issue in a MIkko trade.

Unless Brady ask for a trade. He has made it very clear he is tired of losing.

They can't only move Manson.

They need to make 10M cap space just for Landy and Mitts.

If you move both Girard and Manson and replace them with, say, Behren and Kovacevic (cheapest NHL caliber RD) you only make like 8M of cap space. That's not even enough.

So Landeskog will be playing? You’re 100% sure of that?

I think he’s done.

C'mon man, you're talking to the guy who doesn't know what a calculator is and never passed 4th grade math. He can't understand this stuff

Calm down princess.

You claim to be the all-knowing, super Avs fan on here every day. You claim that everyone here are terrible fans and YOU are the one true fan daily. And yet you don't even realize that replacing Girard with Behrens wouldn't even cover HALF of the cap space the Avs will need this summer?

Pfft... Some super fan you are. Mikko would be disappointed.

You are horrible fans.

Go look at the playoff page where over half the guys said the Avs would lose in 4 and were ready to throw Georgiev in the trash.

You guys are absolutely the worst group of whiny little bitch@s out of any fan group.

Mittlestadt's extension says hello, Landeskog's 7M AAV says hello, Toews' extension says hello.

Replacing Girard with Behrens doesn't pay for half of it

87.7 mil cap
17.7 in cap space (not including Kovalenko, Behrens, Malinski and Wagner)

Nichushkin- Mackinnnon- Rantanen
Lehkonen -
Wood- Colton- O’Connor
Kovalenko- Wagner

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Behrens - Malinski

Georgiev
Annunen

All signed for 2024/25

(Landeskog is not coming back)

So you’re telling me that we can’t sign Mittlestadt, a 2RW ( Drouin) and a couple vet min players to round out the roster with +/- 14 mil in cap space?

I still have no idea where you are getting your numbers from. Are you just making things up?

2024/25 signed players:

Nichushkin - $6,125,000
Mackinnnon - $12,600,000
Rantanen - $9,250,000

Lehkonen - $4,500,000
Mittlestadt - RFA
Drouin - UFA

Wood - $2,500,000
Colton - $4,000,000
O’Connor - $1,050,000

Kovalenko - $896,250
Wagner - $775,000
Duhaime - UFA

Makar - $9,000,000
Toews - $7,250,000

Girard - $5,000,000
Manson - $4,500,000

Behrens - $905,833
Malinski - $850,000

Georgiev - $3,400,000
Annunen - $837,500

2024/25 salary cap - $87,700,000

Total contracts- $73,439,583

Cap space - $14,260,417

That’s plenty to resign Mittlestadt, Drouin and two or three vets to min contracts.

Even if Landeskog comes back (our top 6 is set) we can trade Girard for futures, have Behrens take his spot and still be left with:

$12,260,417 to sign Mittlestadt, a 4th line winger and 2 or 3 extras.

RE: The hypothetical Mikko trade talk. What about something around Konecny + For Mikko? Grants immediate saving to keep guys like Lehky, Nuke, and Manson. Ive always felt like Konecny could thrive with the Avs under Bednar

Your math checks out. I'm proud of you, JH. :thumbu:

I actually happen to agree with you, that Landeskog is likely not coming back. Makes me sad to say it, but I do share that belief. However, he is a player currently under contract, so he does need to be accounted for. But for the sake of good debate, let's go with the assumption that Landeskog is done.

Assuming no rollover bonuses, the Avs would have about $14M left over in this scenario. Mitts is going to cost $6M of it, Drouin $4M more. That leaves $4M left to sign Duhaime (who I believe will cost $2M+) and two vets.

Yes, this scenario could be done, but it would still be tight.

** But if the Avs do have to account for Landeskog, do you see that the Avs would have to rid themselves of TWO $4M contracts that are listed above? This is the problem they could have in the offseason. If Landeskog is intent on giving it a shot at training camp next season, what do the Avs do? They can't purposefully sign all of these players and be $7M over the cap during camp, can they?

Yes. If Landeskog comes back we most likely won’t be resigning Drouin and Girard will have to go.

But it’s not that difficult.

Lose:
Drouin- UFA
Walker- UFA
Duhaime- UFA
Johnson- Retire
Parise- Retire
Cogliano- Retire

Resign- Mittlestadt 3x 5.5
Trenin- 3x 2.0

Nichushkin - $6,125,000
Mackinnnon - $12,600,000
Rantanen - $9,250,000

Lehkonen - $4,500,000

Vet- $1,000,000
Malinski - $850,000

Georgiev - $3,400,000
Annunen - $837,500

3 reserves @ $850,000 = $2,550,000

2024/25 salary cap - $87,700,000

Total contracts- $86,489,583

Cap space - $1,210,417

Actually they can. Teams can be up to 10% over the cap until opening day. With that said, it is probably unrealistic the Avs would do that because they would then be a very weak position to get rid of one or two players to get under the cap. IMO I suspect they will know by the end of these playoffs if Landy can return next year or not....at least I really hope so. It is very important they figure this out before FA and I would argue even before draft day.

But there is a way to avoid all this guessing and it is to trade Mikko which would give the Avs certainty over cap space.

I'm counting in Landeskog from after half season. Balthazar probably count him in the whole season and you not at all. So, here's the Mittel Way:

Landeskog - $3,500,000
Mackinnnon - $12,600,000
Rantanen - $9,250,000

Lehkonen - $4,500,000
Mittelstadt - $6,000,000 * RFA
Nichushkin - $6,125,000

Ritchie - $925,000
Colton - $4,000,000
O’Connor - $1,050,000

Wood - $2,500,000
Wagner - $775,000
Kovalenko - $896,250

Drouin - 3,007,920 * UFA

Makar - $9,000,000
Toews - $7,250,000

Girard - $5,000,000
Manson - $4,500,000

Behrens - $905,833
Malinski - $850,000

Middleton - $775,000

Georgiev - $3,400,000
Annunen - $837,500

I'm not sure our GM trades Mikko because he thinks things are a bit difficult to consider.

Huh??????!!!!!

Half his salary. Half LTIR.

You can't used only half of a player's cap. It is all or nothing.

So, what will happen if Landeskog is back after christmas? I guess there's a cheaper player replacing him during his absence.

Foudy or someone making less than $1,000,000.
