With so many question marks coming into the 2023-24 season, I figure I'd toss together one of these threads. If there's one already created, please delete this.

I always find it fun to come back and look at the predictions at the end of the season to see how accurate/how much of a gongshow the totals are.

Anyways, I'll kick us off...

Forwards:
David Pastrnak: 44-48-92
Brad Marchand: 29-53-82
Pavel Zacha: 23-43-66

Hampus Lindholm: 10-41-51
Matt Grzelcyk: 6-27-33
Kevin Shattenkirk: 8-23-31
Brandon Carlo: 6-16-22
Derek Forbort: 3-11-14

Goaltending:

Linus Ullmark: 29-16-5, 2.45 GAA, .916 SV%
Jeremy Swayman: 16-11-5, 2.56 GAA, .913 SV%

Yes, I even went so far as to do goaltending.

Wow, very level headed predictions.

I have a little more faith in the netminders than you but otherwise everyone else looks bang on to me. I see both goaltenders with a least 2 more wins each and everything else it takes to get there as far as they are concerned.

That's a Norris Trophy total for McAvoy.

So far no one has a player scoring more goals than assists.

There's always a couple of those each year.

We don’t even know who’s going to make the bottom 6 let alone their point totals. Frederic and Geekie are my dark horses.

McAvoy around 60 points and Lindholm around 45.

You had us missing the playoffs I'm guessing? Based on bolded.

Depends on how my dark horses perform. We’re in Geekie’s hands now.

He also has Debrusk and Zacha destroying their previous career highs right above the bolded.

Curious as to the rationale that Zacha would have fewer points than last year. Not as curious as those putting 20+ points for Patrick Brown, but still curious.

Pasta 42G, 80 pts
Marchand 32G, 61 pts
Charlie Coyle 20G, 58 pts
Zacha 16G, 48 pts
DeBrusk 23G, 44 pts
Boqvist 14G, 34 pts
JVR 16G, 32 pts
Morgan Geekie 13G, 29 pts
Frederic 11G, 24 pts
Lucic 10G, 24 pts
Lauko 5G, 24 pts
Brown 1G, 8 pts

McAvoy 10G, 57 pts
Lindholm 7G, 38 pts
Grzyleck 6G, 30 pts
Shattenkirk 4G, 25 pts
Carlo 4G, 16 pts
Forbort 2G, 12 pts

That's 236 goals (I think) of the team's 261 that I suspect they'll score. 25 goal difference. So between Merkulov, Lysell, McLaughlin, Mitchell, perhaps someone like Richard? Top 18 players last season scored all but 26 of the team's goals.

Interesting (and scary) to see people picking Zacha to regress points-wise. Curious as to the rationale?

I figured he'd have a full year with Pasta and that should only boost his numbers, as compared to last year when he spent the first part of it bouncing around from line to line (230+ minutes away from Pasta).

Uncertainty in role.

He's likely going to be asked to be a C which is a big question mark. And I don't think the lines are in any way a cinch. I doubt we're going to see much in the way of consistency anywhere.

I don’t think there is anyone else to even consider putting on the 1st pp unit over Zacha. He was awesome in the bumper position in the playoffs. Unless someone like Merkulov plays out of his mind or something. I’m thinking they’ll go Pastrnak-Zacha-Marchand, Debrusk or JVR for net front, McAvoy?

Certainly what I would try.

But it's not always going to work. And there will be plenty of experimentation with different combos this year when things prove to be inconsistent.

It's not the plug and play that we saw last year.
I’d like to see them try different setups this year. Maybe they don’t have the players for it, but I miss having a playmaker that’s also a scoring threat like Savard on the half wall. I think if they wanted to they could just replace Bergeron with Zacha and keep it pretty much the same though. Maybe experiment with a different setup on the second unit.

team will still make the playoffs.
we have best goalies in the division.
our defense is still good.
during reg season i think our offense will be better than expected.
playoff time the offense will suffer.
