Hughes is literally one of the worst picks made by this current regime. guys not developing and such is one thing -- but he was a bad pick for the Kings at the moment he was announced. I just hope it turns around and it we have a crow pie party

Yeah but there was really nobody else available at that point...oh wait the Ducks took Tristan Luneau 2 picks later who made their team already.... but nah - they wanted a Center and there wasn't any.... Oh wait Mathew Poitras was drafted 3 picks later who's also in the NHL already.
So yeah.

Hughes is definitely an odd study. He was one of the youngest collegiate players in his draft class, and put up 16 points in 39 games. For reference, in his D+1, Kenny Connors put up 26 points in 32 games, and he played well enough to make the WJC team.

It's just that Hughes looks to have decreased ice time his D+1 year. I wasn't able to watch many, but when I checked the box scores, it looked like he was on the third line.

So he transferred from Northeastern to BU. And he's still seemingly in the bottom-6

Incidentally, Braden Doyle, another Kings prospect, transferred from BU to Northeastern the year before.

Hughes was the first time in Blake’s tenure I was pissed at the pick. There were a couple times I was disappointed but I could see the logic in who they picked. But Hughes just was so dumb. He was redundant to what they already had in the system. Since there wasn’t much available that was a need goalie/big toughness Blake should’ve swung for the home runs of Huston or Trikozov. Instead he picked the super vanilla pick.

I was underwhelmed by the Hughes pick, too. There were a couple D that I liked around there (Luneau, Odelius, and Ronni). I was most excited about forward Adam Sykora.

Kasper Simontaival with only 4 points in 14 games. He hasn't shown much improvement since being drafted. He had some nice moments playing in WJCs, but in Liiga he has always looked mediocre. I don't think that Kings will even sign him. Aatu Jämsen is definitely a lot better prospect than him.
Kasper looks sharp after your reply, Jukurit. :naughty:

You might still be right. Must end the year with 15-20 goals, me thinks.

I think Simontaival is a classic Late Bloomer!

Maybe Blake/Yanetti heard the name “Hughes” and got completely confused which one…
There were better prospects on the board I think...still hope he turns out to be a decent 3rd-4th liner in the NHL
