I'm not the biggest advocate of signing Stamkos, but Killorn seems to be.

Stamkos’ play at even strength is concerning. I really don’t know where the best spot for him would be. He would be a great fit on the PP though.

The idea sounds cool and he had some very nice chemistry with Killorn in Tampa, but I think the age could be a concern. It's just a big name that Anaheim can get who can still play and produce.

At this point in his career Stamkos is a bit of a PP specialist. I have no problem bringing him in for 1-2 years but anyone expecting a top line guy should probably temper expectations. He would be a veteran signing and I think culture would be the biggest impact he would have.

Overpaying for a PP specialist isn't something I would do. With a competent coaching, I think Ducks have plenty of skill to have an excellent PP already.
This is where I come down. I wouldn't be upset if they signed him for two years or something. I'd be okay with it for what it signals - that the team is trying to compete. But I think Stamkos is mostly empty calories for a team like the Ducks. He'd help with the power play. But the improvements to special teams should come naturally as our current players mature and also as our special teams coaches get fired into the sun.

What the team needs to add is leadership/accountability and 5-on-5 play driving. Stamkos should help with the former but will not help with the latter. I worry that he'd be a guy preaching what he can no longer practice while not helping the team much on the ice.

I dont love the Stamkos idea, but I can see the benefits for the locker room. I think the question will come down to, is he looking to get paid, or win more?

I'm completely joking but what about Patrick Kane?

What about a guy who is younger and putting up excellent numbers? Reinhart? I have no idea about his situation with FLA, but hes got years left of really good hockey, but hes going to be expensive.

I think he's another Huberdeau waiting to happen. He provides more on the defensive end than Huberdeau, but this is absolutely a career year, and he's (rightly) going to milk it for all it's worth in his contract. I don't like the odds of him living up to his next deal.

Someone is going to overpay Reinhart if he gets to FA, but I don't think it'll be us. His SH% this year is nearly 10% above his average and he's likely going to command $10M+ per year with the cap increase.

It really emphasizes how important it is to develop your own elite core players, because it seems like 99% of the time they are never hitting the open market and just signing fat extensions with the teams that drafted them instead. Nowadays the best players hitting FA are either previously elite guys on the downswing that have already been paid, or "late bloomer" types that peak later in their careers.

Vegas is now very close to the cap ceiling for next season, meaning there is very little chance for them to keep Marchessault. He would be a great fit for us, but I’m afraid he’s had too good of a season and will want a lot of money even though he’s 33.

In that Gulls interview, Verbeek, in addition to saying he wants a "top 6 winger," says he wants to add "another defenseman." He did not specify if that would be a top 4 dman, but that seems like a spot we could address, especially a righty (i.e. Roy, DeMelo, Pesce, etc.).
This was always inevitable. I feel like maybe he didn’t publicly state so before, to not put undo pressure on our youngsters.

I still stand by offering him a 2 year $10m per year contract. Give him the C and show the kids how to lead. Then he comes off the books when most of the kids need their next contracts.
Imo this makes a lot of sense to me. Just need to make sure we get some guys who can also PK. I hope Cutter can. We have Killorn. We really need some of the top kids to take on some of that responsibility I think. Who are the top Pking forwards next year?
Killorn
Lundestrom
Vatrano
Leason

He really isn’t worth that
He is on 8.5 now and isn't going to come here for a discount. The money is being paid to pass on his knowledge leading to the kids not for his production alone.

It would be great to have three young D all working with a quality veteran partner.

Interesting how Stamkos career has kinda mirrored Lecavalier’s except he’s been a good deal better id say.

would be neat to have him on the team for a couple years but hardly holding my breath.
