Welcome to the Jungle
YIKES, OTT realized they didn't sign the worst contract of the day yesterday and needed to make up for it.
How bad is the Norris contract. .75 points per game over 120 games for a 23 yo. They have all the room in the workd and they seem to have trouble convincing people to stay. Lock up a Stud like Norris, and hope that he along with DeBrincat and Chabot can finally turn the ship around. If I was in their position, I would do that deal all day. Same if I was Arizona, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Edmonton, Columbus or Calgary and maybe some others as well.

For a 23 yo 6'3 C who scored 55 over 66 games this year. Again I would take it.
I would too. Norris is one hell of a good player. It's not just about the goals with him. He's just a really fine hockey player in general. He is also getting better each year. Throw in the fact he has been putting up his numbers on one of the worst teams in hockey. Basically the Sens are getting his prime 8 years. No-brainer if I'm the GM and have the cap space.

The Sens top 6 is looking like it will be very very good. Past several years Sens have been a young scrappy up-and-coming team that I enjoyed watching when the Bs played them, but in a relaxed "we'll get the 2 pts" way. Sens still have some flaws in their roster, but they are a serious threat to any NHL team on a nightly basis starting this coming season. I won't be as relaxed as a fan on the nights the Bs play the Sens.

The kids a gem 35 goals in 66 games. He's a star already and is best friends with Brady Tkachuk. That's when you want to sign them when their young and have years in front of them. In 3 years that deal will look like a steal as will the Tkachuk one.

Idk if you have seen Norris play but that deal is going to be an absolute steal assuming good health. 90 points in 125 career games through his age 22 season. Norris is a future stud that they now have locked up for a tick under $8m a year.

Almost $8m for a 50 point scorer lol
He’s 22 years old, his best hockey is still in front of him. I’d kill for the bruins to have a center who put up 90 points in his first 125 games before he turned 23.

The Norris contract was a huge overpayment. Here in Ottawa most people view him as a 2nd line center coming off a year with an unsustainable 20% shooting percentage who scored 19 PP goals. He is more like a 6-6.5 mil/ year. The scary thing is how this could affect Pastrnak's contract, ouch.

Well they view him that way because they have stutzle. I’d be very happy w Norris as the Bruins 1

Maybe next year, but if Bergeron and Krejci are back they currently are better players then Norris. Norris is essentially a one-trick pony who scores a ton of PP goals, furthermore he is nowhere close to Bergeron and Krejci when it comes to playmaking and defensive play. Something else to keep in mind regarding Norris, he has had 2 serious problems with his shoulders, if he incurs anymore damage to them it could seriously jeopardize his career trajectory. I'm also curious to see if he stays on the top PP unit with fellow PP specialists Giroux and DeBrincat now there.

Bergeron of course, saying Krejci is laughable. One finished 25th in goal scoring in the NHL, one finished 17th, in the Czechnia league.

As far as the shoulder thing, I guess we need to worry a whole lot more about McAvoy, since he is the far more physical player.

Top remaining UFAs still unsigned

Niederreiter, Heinen, Klingberg, Kadri

Lots of key RFAs still unsigned. Like Dach, Kakko and several players from Kings

23 year old kid, 55+ pts, 20 more than previous year in only 10 more games, kid is a player. What may look like an overpayment today will be a very solid cap hit over the years

Kind of hard for Krejci to put up numbers playing with guys nowhere near his caliber in the Czech league. Stick him with Pastrnak and Hall for a year with PP time and he should be good for somewhere around 75 points.

It's Eklund but he is saying Klingberg to Ott on a 1 year is probable. That would be big trouble for the Bruins. Edit Klingberg anywhere in the east, save perhaps MTL, is big trouble.
I just can't see Klingberg, at his age, taking a one year contract.

He just turned 23 years old this summer. He’s only going to get better. Also how are you seriously questioning if they are going to keep a guy who scored 19 PP goals last year on the top power play. They aren’t about to take their top PP goal scorer off the the PP.

Ya sure he’s not as good defensively as bergeron, but guess what no forward in the NHL is. Fans here would love to have a center going into his age 23 season coming off a 35 goal season.

Also $7.95m isn’t a lot of money in todays NHL. The cap will only keep increasing starting next year. Are they taking a chance? Ya sure maybe a little bit, but if he continues on this trajectory that’s going to be one of the biggest steals on a contract in the NHL from now until 2030

This is such a flippant line of thinking.

Any good at Math? Profit sharing aside, assuming these numbers are close to being accurate, how’s that $8 million look now? That’s 5% of revenue…not profit….sales. Now take out marketing and operating expenses (travel, other employees, cost of merchandise, insurance). They paid a 23 year old kid that scored 50 pts 5% of the money that team brought in before expenses. But, hey….that ain’t much. What’s the risk?

Want to know why Eugene croaked? Somebody told him they were going to cut $8 mil out of his wallet and give it to this snot-nosed kid….

I think Norris' deal is a bad one. I would never go 8 years and huge dollars coming off an ELC. I think GM's should hold a firm line and insist on bridge deals.

You do a short term, short money bridge that takes them a year short of UFA, then you go for the big money, 8 year deal if they show they're the real deal. That lets you buy UFA years without having to compete with the rest of the league. That's what the Bruins did with McAvoy.

Worst deal in the league has to be the Matthews deal. They gave him big money AND short term, so when his deal expires he'll be a 26 year old UFA. Larkin too.
