You do know the AHL exists right?

You need to keep up.
You know the AHL is in North America too.
We’re talking about bringing him over to NA. Not necessarily the NHL.

Spoken like a guy who has 0 clue why we want him over here in NA.

I don’t think I’d go that far but I’m also far from convinced on him. If he’s not 1 then I definitely look to trade back rather than just jump at him

I'm not either, but only because of the situation the team is in. We don't really need Wright and could use immediate help much more.

I don't care about the situation the team is in. For me it's the underwhelming production and lack of high end dynamic ability. Reminds me of Nolan. His defensive game has been talked up but on the other hand I've also heard people say it's not special which leads me to believe his defense gets overrated because people are compensating for the lackluster production. He did get better as the season went on so there's that at least.

McCagg says he won’t have Wright in his top 3
I think we all need to stop listening to McCagg.

I'm a Wright booster, but I did not love his playoff performance. I'm still pretty confident he holds off Slafkovsky and finishes the year as the consensus #1. I'm also pretty confident Montreal takes him #1.

I'd be really surprised if Montreal doesn't take Wright. He's been the consensus #1 for awhile and as a bonus he fits the team need very very well. Honestly his season reminds me a lot of Hischier's draft season. Not spectacular but very solid, and expected to be a leader and responsible player at a young age. His floor is very very high, which I think is appealing for Montreal after such a massive swing in results.

I wouldn’t be that suprised but you’re probably mostly Wright.
It seems like the Canadiens have been watching Slafkovsky and if they’re really impressed by him and haven’t been that impressed by Wright than I could definitely see them taking him.

I also don’t think Wright fits the team need better than Slafkovsky. They kind of need talent all around but at least they have a good young C in Suzuki. What do they have at LW and who do they have like Slafkovsky? No one.

So it’s either creating a really good one two punch at center or they get a highly skilled power forward who could be dominant alongside Suzuki and/or Caufield.

I still think they likely take Wright but I wouldn’t be that suprised to see them take Slafkovsky especially if he keeps up his WC performances in front of their front office.

Just watched Wright’s final game and I’m honestly not sure what to say. You can really see his vision and IQ throughout the game and his wicked shot on his powerplay goal. But, in a weird way it almost looked like he was just coasting through the game at times and wasn’t really looking to get involved and drive offense. The best forwards are always looking to get open and get the puck so they can make something happen. He would float around, get the puck, make a nice pass to someone else and then just slowly follow into the zone and then once in the zone with possession he would often just find his way to the net and hang-out there. But he would get involved in battles down low and there was a couple instances in the game where it looked like he was actually skating full speed. But he spent a lot of the game drifting around like he was bored and didn’t feel like skating. Not once did he take the puck and really try to make a move or skate around someone. He also got hit quite a few times but it never seemed like he was bracing for the hit or hitting them back. I thought it was pretty weird. It was almost like he didn’t expect them to hit him every time even though it was obvious they were going to or he was just deciding to take it even if they knocked him down.

That being said he was still really good with his playmaking and created some nice looks for his teammates. Even in tight spots he would find a way quickly to get it to a teammate. Also on the few occasions where he did look like he was giving it his all he made things hard on the other team. Almost scored on one such occasion.

I don’t know. Almost looked like he was just coasting out there for some shinny hockey at times but maybe he was just tired. I think he can skate faster, play harder and do more than he did in that game. It was a do or die game too so it’s kind of a bit disappointing not to see more from him.

So basically Hischier in the first half of the season.

With Hischier it always looked like he was really trying to me. This looked more like he was just bored and coasting

At times early in the season Hischier would try but he always erred on cheating back on defense and being responsible on his line changes and being a support player to his linemates. He played that way today in the Switzerland game once they had the game in hand. Never lazy but you can’t play that way as a main cog on a bad team.

I didn't catch this game but that sounds about how he played the games I saw.

Playing not to get injured before the draft against the best team in the Conference?

I can’t see the Habs passing in Wright .
1. Huge need for a C
2. Consensus #1
3. Draft held in Montreal . First time in decades they have had a #1 overall pick . They do something seen as a “ reach “ and Habs fans will burn down the stadium at the draft .

The thing is they have a huge need for talent everywhere. They literally have nothing on the wing outside of Caufield and certainly no one like Slafkovsky. At least they have Suzuki at C.

They’re essentially choosing between a really good 1-2 punch at center going forward or getting a really good winger who could be great alongside Suzuki and/or Caulfield.

There’s also a chance that it’s not so consensus come draft day especially if Slafkovsky finishes strong at the WC.
Wright is still most likely but it seems possible to me.

yeah but you think casual Habs fans are actually on the net following the performances of Slaf and other draft picks when all they've been hearing locally is Shane Wright this and Shane Wright that?

I think they'll be pissed if it's anyone other than Shane Wright, tbh.
