Canadian hockey fans are the some of the worst fans in North American sports. They’re like the casual ignorance of Texas football fans crossed with the psychotic zealotry of European football fans. Hockey is so ingrained in their culture they end up going full Dunning Kruger and vastly overrate their understanding of the game.

Couple that with nothing else going on the city of Edmonton, and an immense entitlement complex, and you get Oilers fans.

When I was in Edmonton last month for the kings game, some guy in his early 20's had the most pathetic shit talking I've ever been the recipient of.

He asked me if I remembered game 7 of the first round last year.

I was like "uh yeah".

"How'd that feel?"

"Not good but I was around when the kings won the cup in 2012 and 2014. You'll be lucky if you ever get to experience that."

"That's like old history, man"

It was a very odd exchange to say the least. The tone and his demeanor were super intense while he was questioning me. According to my wife there were a number of comments or insults that I never knew were directed at me. Like passive aggressive comments said under their breath. If you go on YouTube or Twitter, it's clear that most of these fans are children regardless of their age.

FIRE TODD!!!!

Wait! We didn't lose?

Oh man that game was stressful. Iafallo showed up at the end. He was quickly climbing my poop list. Arvidsson hit another level in OT. Crazy game.

Don't forget Lizotte just tripped on the broken stick, he wasn't actually tripped...

Woodcroft said this in his post game. Way to feed the delusionality of your players and fan base. I mean did he not watch the replay we all saw. Lizotte did not step on the broken stick and the Oilers player went right underneath Lizotte's skates as he lost his balance. Pure coincidence. These guys are a bunch of clowns and grown ass men throwing their shitty overpriced beers on the ice is just the icing on the cake.

Oilers fans complaining about the refs is fresh. Of course they don't give a fuk when Oilers are crosschecking/interfering the Kings in the first period. The ref must have given a "are you serious right now?" look to Nurse after he slashes Doughty then crosschecks when neither had the puck....you could see it in Nurse's face and then he gives one of these lol:

Uh, DOUCHEbag, you slashed and crosschecked Doughty...wtf you complaining about?

It doesn't really matter what we fans think, but the objective, cold fact of life is that Anže and Drew know what it takes, while Connor & those other guys do not. One thing is the hype, and hypes will always generate followers, even idiotic ones, bring in the crowds. But the battlefield is on the ice, and right now the scoreboard says 1-0 for the Kings. Massive 1-0 that is. Relax & enjoy the ride.

Fans being douches is one thing but if the oilers themselves are buying into this "refs are out to get us" shit then I say good. Let it get in your head and choke on it.

It's to be expected. They've endured year upon year of futility and basically being a laughing stock for over a decade.

They finally struck gold with McMinus so it's years of frustration being released. It's good for them to start the healing process.

Funny how the same Oilers team that's only where they are in the standings because they've had one of the best powerplays in history, now claiming the refs are out to get them because they lost a game from the other team getting a (deserved) penalty.

Great comeback. What a difference a good PP coach makes. A pretty brilliant move to put Arvidsson on the 1st unit after the Fiala injury.

It's weird do say this after 4 points but Kopitar needs to be better 5v5. That line was on the ice for both goals against and Kopi in particular was pretty weak on the 3rd goal.
He needs to contain Drasaitl better or we could see a repeat of last year because you know McDavid won't be completely shut down all series.

i think that’s why comparing them to Canucks fans are an insult to Canucks fans. At least a good chunk of Canucks fans during the playoffs seemed sober and coherent. Oilers fans seem to be pretty dense.

It was easy to miss Edler last night considering he was the guy always nearly off the screen chasing the guy with the puck.

Your schtick is ridiculous at this point. You can keep on believing you're the only one smart enough to see how great these players are that actually suck if it makes you feel better.

Edler is terrible and so is MacEwan. Neither belong on a playoff roster.
“Elder playing well” is definitely laughable.
Elder didn’t cause the team to lose and had some good plays but the bar can’t be that low - even on our 3rd pairing.

Maybe Durzi is one of those guys who's just better in the playoffs.
He was told keep it together or he’ll sit. PP specialist or not.

Edler is a good soldier but he was lucky more than he was good. He stepped up and made some good defensive stops, but his foot speed was exposed all night and the unforced errors were far too many. Any other game and those end up in the back of the net instead of the bounces vs. the Kopitar line. Can't just ignore those, that's the stuff that burns you vs. McDavid. BUT--he didnt try to play beyond his means this year like he did last year.

I generally agree with you. Drai's second goal 9/10 Kopitar puts that into the corner but last night he hit someone's shin/skate and at bounced back into the slot. Was a bummer for sure, glad it worked out in the end.

By the way, pretty wild that JAD played in just three of the Kings' last 21 games and lined up in game one. What the hell was the point of acquiring and playing MacEwen for all those games, then? Shouldn't JAD have been playing in at least a few of those games if the plan was for him to play in the playoffs?
What the hell was the point of the Avs dressing MacDermid for the regular season and then benching him the entire post season?

They didn't trade for him at the deadline though.

Lost in all the bitching from Oilers fans is that Skinner is definitely beatable.
