Yeah, deadlines fast approaching.

Hearing (CNBC "The News") that Japan is experiencing nasty COVID surge. They were showing some images of unfinished venues.

Have to wonder how IOC and host will be able to get everything ready in time.

Postponement by another year should happen.

It hasn't been since 1992 that both Winter and Summer were in same year. Many of us grew up on them being held in separate years (I was only 2 the last time both were in the same year).

not happening the IOC already did this once, they have no intention of doing it a 2nd year..... why not cancel both olympiads then, if the Summer games cannot be held, COVID has also affected the winter olympiad host city

Might affect the Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule imo if it’s canceled. NBC might ask the NHL to stretch SCF out till end of July.

We don't have to cancel them outright.

It's not like the world is in a constant state of war now, which was the reason for previous cancellations. Postponement to 2022 should not be a big deal. It would be the first time in 30 years both the Winter and Summer games are staged the same year. It would be a real treat for those who grew up with the Winter and Summer games being staged in separate years. And it would help with getting more NBA players to participate.

Plus if cancellation occurs, I expect NBC to sue the IOC for breach of contract, which would mark the end of the Olympics on NBC. Other local broadcasters could sue too, which means IOC will have to find new television partners in just about every country.

I wonder if they could just stick to Athletics, Aquatic Sports, Gymnastics, and a handful of socially distanced sports like weight lifting rather than attempting to do everything. It might be easier to avoid team sports like basketball and Volleyball as well as the contact sports like boxing.

China blasts NBC for using 'incomplete map' during Opening Ceremony broadcast

The NBC map of China did not include Taiwan or disputed territory in the South China Sea.

So PRC claims that area, but US does not recognize their claims.

Trying for other political thread of discussion to distract folks, push their political ends.

Worst option, NBC gets big black mark? Or China demands their ouster?

As if this hasn't happened before? Same old story, just ginning up the folks elsewhere.

How about the Korean broadcaster during the opening ceremony? Pictures of Chernobyl while Ukraine came out, a vampire when Romania entered....

Unreal.
