Do you guys think Danila Klimovich will get any playingtime?
I think the game against GB will be his only opportunity. Unless Belarus will quickly lose a chance to fight for QF and will have meaningless games towards the end of the group stage. But that's unlikely.

No matter how talented, he is a kid from the Belarussian 2nd league at the end of the day. We have a better chance to see Yeromenko playing wing again than Klimovich taking that spot in a competitive game.

Lineup?

kodola / Sharangovich / Protas
pare / platt / prince
Belevich / Demkov / Kostitsyn
drozd / komarov / Stefanovich

i know kodola, shara and protas all are centers, but will they really be wasted on lower lines. that first line would have lots of firepower.

this is 4 good khl level lines..

Falkovsky - bailen
khenkel - Korobov
Lisovets - Solovyov
Yeryomenko

same here...all good khl level...

shostak or kolosov might play over taylor...their stats are actually better...2 young goalies with some potential.

Well at F it certainly isn't going to look like that, you have basically every center playing wing and wings playing center  On defense chairs would also need to be rearranged but that's less of a big deal.

Kodola is definitely going to play center, he is just wasted on the wing. Sharangovich is probably the toughest decision between trying to decide where to play him (center? wing? with Pare and Prince for a completely stacked line?). The lack of good wingers and right-hand shots is the biggest problem here. Not a whole lot of playmaking potential either, all the most offensively talented guys more of triggermen.

There is no intuitive way to arrange this lineup, the snippets have to be:

  • Pare and Prince are definitely playing together
  • Kostitsyn is definitely still a top-6 forward in this situation, Platt is definitely not
  • A tough decision has to be made about bottom-6, maybe just create 2 roughly equal lines, one centered by Protas and other by Belevich, especially against weaker competition. Because it makes some sense to have your best players higher in the lineup and give them more minutes but at the same time, it plays them out of position limiting effectiveness and the 4th line becomes just garbage you are afraid to send out on the ice
  • It's way too early to talk about Protas being "wasted on lower lines". His AHL stint just again proved what showed in the KHL as well: he is a good player, good prospect but he is not really the biggest point producer out there. Kostitsyn on 3rd line is much more of a waste of players' best assets than Protas on the 3rd line. Arguably playing him with Sharangovich would just drag Sharangovich down as well, offensively.
  • Belevich is one guy whom you might consider moving to wing since he is defensively weakest out of all big-name centers and his size would be useful on pretty much any line.
At the end of the day, this is the kind of lineup where trial and error will do much more than all this theory crafting. But definitely an interesting and quite powerful squad.

On defense, Falkovsky and Bailen are definitely not playing the same pair. Korobov is hopefully out of top-4 for good at this point, legitimate discussion could be had should he be in the lineup at all. But for the sake of PK maybe he should.

Coaching staff making some dubious decisions: in the 1st game they scratch Protas and Kodola, in the 2nd same happens to Prince. Is there something I don't know or are they just playing 3D chess?

If you saw two sad guys crying at a five stars hotel in Riga, don't be wondering. They are just Garpenlöv and Pešán.

Prince is injured according to the Belarussian media. Protas was in isolation after arriving from NA, it was reported immediately that he will miss the first game at the time. And Koloda might have not been 100% fit, as the news were circulating that he might miss the whole tournament not that long ago.

Protas was not allowed to play due to late arrival quarantine. Kodola had a minor injury and was not supposed to join the team back in early May.
Prince got injury on Friday.

That somewhat reassures the sanity of the coaching staff, good to know.

At least the Belevich - Sharangovich - Kostitsyn line was something I predicted in a roundabout way, I will take that as a win :sarcasm:

19 y.o Kolosov was great in net against Sweden. His backup was 21 y.o. Shostak. And they have bunch of another teenagers who might be as talented as those 2, including Shostak's younger brother. Belarus finally gonna have some home grown goaltenders for years to come.

If you watch the result of the juniors the last year Belarus should indeed have enough home-grown players to have a shot at the quarters again and without the need of naturalizing imports.

Mikhail Stefanovich is the slowest player in the entire world. Its gonna be a pleasure watching him trying to skate. Hockey is supposed to be a serious sport, but Stefanovich brings comedy with his skating.
Well, tied for a team lead in scoring with Kodola and Sharangovich atm.

This Belarus team is nowhere near as bad as Zakharov is making them look. But the result is what it is.

There is zero game plan besides sad 1-3-1 trapping, that subsequently leads to not being able to come up with anything offensively. Lines and squad rotations from game to game are nonsensical and horrible, Bailen and Pare are simply playing too much with net negative return. Platt also looks done and even Prince surprisingly looks absolutely ineffective. To put it mildly - all NA players have been disappointing with exception of maybe Taylor.

Not to put blame solely on naturalized players. Sharangovich is not a captain material at this point, there are so many childish moments to his tournament so far - from middle fingers to opposition bench to lazy penalties here or there. Took Zakharov long enough to finally bench the corpse of Sergei Kostitsyn - player that at this stage should be nowhere near the national team. Also how is Drozd still being played? He might be even worse than SK. I've called out his offensive ineptitude year after year, once he touches the puck that's a guarantee that there will be no goal within next two teammate touches. This is his 8th WC, he has 0+1 in 43 games - those are not great numbers for a goalie let alone a so called forward. Lets hope IIHF bans him for his today's terrible hit tot he head - his absence might improve the team.

Expected more going forward from Falkovsky, Belevich also hasnt impressed even though he has two solid KHL seasons behind his back. Protas is very young still and Im not gonna judge him, his size already is an asset. The best player so far has to be Kodola, none of the lines click, he has come back from injury very recently, but every time he has the puck I have a feeling like something positive might happen on ice and that's sadly already a lot this year.

If there was relegation this year, Belarus would be going down again by the looks of it.
