you aren’t going to shed salary in the same trade, when the opposite team doesn’t want to take on extra salary. Like I said it’s assuming there’s a suitor for Hutton. Teams aren’t making these huge 6 player deals at this point where the cap is at. Like yeah clearly we would have to dump salary, it just wouldn’t be in a trade where they don’t want salary back.

You need to do 3 for 3 to be fair and close to cap neutral.

1-1 trades aren’t likrly to be done unless you are a team with space.

As of now buffalo has no space.

The exception is taking back Hossa because buffalo potentially has ELCs to call up against it.

like I said before. If you can MOVE hutton somewhere before and open up the cap hit for Raanta yeah, you can trade picks for him. The trade doesn’t necessarily have to involve Hutton going the other way, if you move him out. They’ll probably have a little bit after signing the RFAs. That’s what I clarified before the trade post, assuming he can be moved. I know how the cap works.

Why not see what Cozens can do?

Hall - Eichel - Cozens
Skinner - Staal - Okposo
Olofsson - Reinhart - Thompson
Grigenson - Eakins - Rieder
Lazar

yeah Reinhart face a center but see if it works

not gunna happen.. He is a proven winger in a contract year, the Sabres want him as cheap as possible why pay him as a center when wingers are cheaper?

RW on each line is a question mark..or, well, Okposo, but I could see 3 scoring lines working.

Re-signing Reinhart, Olofsson, and Ullmark will take most of the cap left. Unless Adams goes short term with Reinhart, he'll probably go over the cap by a shade. He'll probably need to move Miller for futures. Maybe to Detroit for a 3rd?

That's free up enough money for this roster:

LW: Hall, Skinner, Olofsson, Girgensons
C: Eichel, Staal, Eakin, Lazar, Cozens
RW: Reinhart, Okposo, Reider, Thompson

LD: Dahlin, McCabe, Davidson
RD: Ristolainen, Montour, Jokiharju, Irwin

G: Hutton, Ullmark

Probably enough here to bring in one more player at around $2M per year.

A Hutton buyout saves $1.83m this year. If we trade for a goalie that's a more likely option than finding a trade partner.

is the answer jesus

Yeah that isn't so great.... I'd think most are reasonably certain Olofsson will produce if he's put on the top line, but expecting not just contributions, but significant roles from both Thompson and Cozens is setting yourself up for a giant letdown at least at this point. Preferring Kahun to Reinhart is insanity. Top line forward > middle 6 forward.

Nate Schmidt was just moved for a 3rd and is a better player. The second year makes moving Miller for futures very expensive

I even liked the Miller trade at the time (was obviously anticipating a Risto trade) but man $3.875m cap hit over two years for him right now is dookie.
