Just a thought... Since we didn't have the combine this year, what are the chances some of the prospects like Rossi grew a bit and we just don't know it yet? I mean they ARE an age where they can still be growing.

Devils Daily did a mock with other podcasters for the respective teams ahead of us in the draft. Only did the first 6 picks (after #1, Laf, obivously) but:

1. Kings - Byfield
2. Sens - Raymond
3. Detroit - Stutzle
4. Sens - Rossi
5. Ducks - Drysdale

They had us take Holtz at #7 over Sanderson.

Holtz? Not Perfetti?

Hmm...I don't know about that.

I'm all in on Seth Jarvis. Right now #11 on my board, so I'd be willing to take him with the Yotes pick even if they lost that series. Bob has him #18, so I'm going to assume that there's an outside chance that he's there still. Lapierre would be my homerun swing. Bob's scouts had him at 15, I think, so I'm guessing there may be a shot. When you're picking at that range, I have no problems whatsoever swinging for the fences on a guy with top line talent. I like Amirov as well, but nowhere near as much as those first two. If we secure one of those first two with an Arizona pick that unfortunately fell to that spot, I'd actually leave fairly happy. I don't view Quinn, for example, as a huge upgrade on Jarvis, who I think is one of the best line drivers in this class.

I'm all in on whomever is @StevenToddIves 's BPA at that point. ;)

16-18 pick I mean

Raymond simply won't go before Stutzle. They're just getting cute here. Raymond's game is based on his combination of hands/vision/skating and Stutzle is better in those respects, plus he's bigger and had a superior draft-eligible season.

BPA is the golden rule. But at certain point you have to consider the players under contract or the already drafted prospects. Adding Raymond/Perfetti and Jarvis and Bourque to our current forward core, which contains Hughes, Bratt and Gusev, isn't ideal. At a certain point you reach the level of diminishing marginal utility with all those small forwards.
A hockey team needs different elements and certain elements are very tough to acquire through trade:
- top line C
- top pairing Ds
- top (or even middle) 6 power forwards

The trade board is loaded with proposals for CBJ's Josh Anderson. A lot of fans of other teams think, his horrible output this season and short contract would make him available at a lower cost. Blue Jacket fans reject every proposal. The ask is always a good second line C. At a certain point a player like Holloway carries more value than another skilled, small forward.

As you probably know, I'm with you on Jarvis. I think he can go anywhere between #12-#22. As far as Lapierre, he's the wild card of the entire draft. He could go in the top 10 or he could fall to the second round. It's no fault of his, it's clearly the injuries.

Whatever happens happens but if Arizona wins their play in series, I will 100% be rooting for them to win the first round and then lose in the second round and then resign Taylor hall. I am kind of leaning towards Arizona resigning him. I think they really really want to and I also think covid messed up a lot of things so maybe the chances he resigns in Arizona is more likely.... which would give us Arizona’s next years unprotected first. I am also rooting for Minnesota over Vancouver.

We could potentially walk away with 2 firsts this year and 3 unprotected firsts next year if that was to happen
NJ should definitely protect their own 2021 first round pick. ;)

Same here! I have him exactly at #11. He's been compared to Brendan Gallagher (mostly because of his size), but to me he looks like a tiny Auston Matthews. Scores bunch of (dirty) goals right in front of the net. So I have to admit I'm a little concerned how that game with translate to NHL level. However he's an excellent skater and simply just too talented not to figure it out.

I was already pretty high on him 6 months ago, but nobody else was really on board back then so I'm glad to see people warming up to Jarvis.

Seth Jarvis has very little in common with Brendan Gallagher. As great of shooter and as much of a pest as he is, he's not a finisher. He's an offensive play-driver and will accumulate more assists than goals. I'd compare him more to Brad Marchand without the relentless diving and stupidity.

Also for the discussion on Rossi, this was recently posted on the prospect board by someone who apparently knows Rossi personally

I've been a little lukewarm on Rossi (I have him at 9th), but this is the kind of stuff that helps ease my concerns about players like him. Obviously this could be fabricated or exaggerated, but it seems genuine from the guy that posted. There are certain characteristics that you need in a player if they are going to be not good or great, but a superstar in the league. The trait and mentality that Rossi is exemplifying above should be #1. Honestly, might bump him a spot or two on my personal rankings just because of this little blip, even if I didn't love everything about his game during the season. You know that players like Rossi will work hard enough to figure out ways to make you love everything about their game.

Rossi's game is pretty much flawless, and I've had him at #4 for quite some time. A player who mixes such dynamic talent and such a ridiculous combination of hockey IQ/compete level is rare. He's truly special.

So let's see, we've had posts involving extremities and a crocodile, a dragon shaped extremity, and now multiple musings about licking. All this social distancing has really caught up to folks and maybe it's time to get out of the house and enjoy a nice walk in a natural and safe location. It will do wonders for the metaphors and similes.

Okay so dont count the most recent drafts

Youre still looking at less than 20% of our picks from 2010 to 2016 in the top-3 rounds showing up. My point still stands, this team has never in its history been good at drafting and now all of a sudden when we have draft capital to acquire proven talent, f*** it lets just draft with all of it again since our track record is so good

The Devils have to draft well and have controllable talent since they’re not getting top notch FA’s to come here and you can’t trade your way to a full core of a team. The Devils of the ‘90’s and ‘00’s needed good drafting to have success that was sustainable. That’s even more important now in a cap league.

I have no faith in this organization to get it right, till they prove me wrong. The Preds choking isn't helping that mindset either tbf

Guys like Holloway and Zary, may still be available in the 17/18 rage. Depending on what draft site you look at.

Holloway, probably. Zary, 50/50. Like a defensive defenseman, the stalwart two-way center who can score is the type of player NHL scouts tend to value more than draft analysts.
