So Macavoy cleans up the 11th spot pretty easy as all the other other options split the vote. Great young dman who has had some injury issues but if can stay healthy will be one of the best for over a decade to come. Anyways lots a great young guy options left (Provorov Chabot Dahlin Werenski) and classics (Karlsson Doughty Letang Suter Etc). Who goes next???

Karlsson has had like six 60+ point seasons and is just 30 years old. He has also had quite a lot of time to rehab any injuries in 2020. He's not dead yet.

This board has the attention span of a goldfish, every new shiny thing that flashes for one year is the object of desire.

There is a lot of recency bias in this. Karlsson and Hughes had similar points per game and one was on a much better team.

Yes, HF certainly does love to judge players based on incredibly small sample sizes. But I think that's more of an indictment on HF's collective hockey opinion than it is on Letang as a player.

Chabot shouldnt be getting this many votes yet. He isnt even the best Dman of his draft year left in this (Werenski, Provorov). Karlsson deserves the benefit of the doubt. Healthy season and he will be up in the top 5 for the Norris again.

As a Canucks fan, I agree with this. But I would say the same for Macavoy, Makar, and Heiskanen.

But if you asked me who I would take over a full season, I dunno, my opinion changes a bit. I think Hughes and those other guys are in the conversation there. They are dynamic, they are skilled, and they’re all trending upward. It really just depends how you rate young defensemen, I personally would like to see all of these guys put together a few solid seasons before ranking them this highly.

Heiskanen, in example, was rated below both Hughes and Makar before the playoffs. After their run, he is now a top 5 defenseman. It’s amazing how a small sample size seems to change how we look at a player.

But whatever... It’s an HFBoards list... Take it for what it is. I think Hughes finished above this in Norris voting, so there is some precedence for it.
