2020 Karjala Cup (November 5th to 8th)

A four day tournament between Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Russia. It will be held in Helsinki, Finland.

Schedule:
Nov. 5th: Russia vs. Finland
Nov. 5th: Sweden vs. Czech Republic

Nov. 7th: Sweden vs. Russia
Nov. 7th: Finland vs. Czech Republic

Nov. 8th: Czech Republic vs. Russia
Nov. 8th: Finland vs. Sweden

So far, two Habs prospects will participate in this event:

Sweden: Mattias Norlinder
Czech Republic: Jan Mysak

Finland should name their roster either today or tomorrow. Maybe Kotkaniemi will make the team. And maybe Armia will be named, too?

Note: Russia has chosen to send an entire roster of U20 players, using this tournament as a warm up to the WJC. However, the other three teams are not happy about them sending an entire roster of kids, when this is more a seniors tournament (with a few junior players on the teams).

There is a rumor that Russia might be kicked off the tournament if they don't make a change. The tournament is a week away, so curious how this goes.

If it keeps worsening they will close the borders quicker than you can delete a post.

they said they were only sending players from outside the Czech league, so any players that are in Liiga don't have to go anywhere since the tournament is in Finland.

Sucks that Kotkaniemi won't be there. So that would make only Norlinder and Mysak as the only Habs prospects there.

hope they don't do anything about it, would be fun to see the U-20 team for Russia and the 5th will be a fun day as we get Norlinder vs Mysak in the afternoon and the USHL season starts at night with Jack Smith.

the lineup has Norlinder on the 2nd pairing, Mysak on the 4th line.

so far neither has played that much, no Norlinder on the only PP. Norlinder did just stop Mysak from trying to break into the zone. Mysak looks small but quick.

Czech's up 2-0 after 1, both on PP goals. Norlinder's at LD, it's one of the few times i've seen him there since almost all the time i've seen him he's at RD.

Mysak picks up an assist on the 3rd goal for the Czech's.

That's him on the boards who gets checked but gets the puck back to his teammate.

3-0 after 2. Norlinder seemed to get more playing time in the 2nd but Sweden is spending a lot of time in their own end as the Czech's are just taking it to them. Mysak tried to tip in a shot late in the 2nd, for playing on the 4th line he's looked good.

3-1 final, Sweden just did not look very good at all, former Hab Max Friberg with the lone goal. Norlinder didn't have the best game, Mysak didn't play a lot but thought he was very noticeable for the shifts he did get.

It's been said by a lot of people already but you really can see a lot of Plekanec in Mysak's game and demeanor. Let's hope he turns out even half as good !
