My thought is that no big name wanted the job with the sanctions looming. So White needed someone willing to take the job and someone he's familiar with because he knows it'll be rough for a few years. Huepel isn't a good recruiter and with the sanctions they aren’t going to bring in the best talent. Huepel does know how to coach less heralded recruits which they'll have early on most likely. Even though his offense gets old quick he still knows how to put up yards and get points. So Tennessee's best chance is to attract recruits based on being a high scoring offense and the fans should enjoy watching it. But he isn't going to make them a powerhouse again even if he lasts beyond the sanctions. He doesn't recruit well enough and his game management is poor. Seems like he'll be used to just get them through the sanctions and back on their feet until White can then hire a bigger name when the program is in a better position to do so.
