Statistically it must be 100x more difficult and unlikely to miss the chance Sterling missed.

You know what's crazy, imagine if PSG and Lyon had a full string of competitive run-in games to prepare for this tournament. People are overlooking how much of a disadvantage they were going into this.

As someone who isn’t defending Guardiola and who on this very forum said that he wasn’t the best manger in the World well before today’s match I am simply putting some things into context. Of course he should have done better than he has in Europe, but exactly how much better would be the better discussion. And IMO there’s not much of a case to say he should have done so much better than he has. Yes he has an expensive squad, but anyone who’s followed the game knows that spending doesn’t always equate to winning, especially in Europe. Furthermore to claim “Pep spent” when that isn’t entirely true is pretty dumb. He’s been given credit for buying players who were at the club before he arrived on this forum before. And imagine saying something like “well he’s only won it with Messi.”

City won’t sack him nor should they right now. There are only two managers they should even consider if they do and one of them would never sign for them.

Lyon seem to be a good club in a one off situation. Kinda like Liverpool was for a while when United was dominant. Could beat anyone on their day, but meh the rest of the time. At least that’s what I see when I watch them in the CL.

From 92-98, they lost to teams like Torpedo Moscow, Rotor Volgograd twice, Galatasaray and Dortmund in knockouts. They won 4 league titles and 2 FA Cups in that span. It is worse than what City has with Pep TBH.

While agree Ferguson's record in Europe contains its fair share of embarrassing blemishes, one of those names listed doesn't belong in your list.

Around that time Dortmund fielded Kohler, Reuter, Sousa, Moller and Riedle - that's four World Cup winners and someone who joined Dortmund direct from the Champions League holders.

They were even better on the rare occasions they had Sammer healthy - albeit I think he missed both legs of the semi with Man United in 97. Indeed, if memory serves, they suffered other missing starters over the two legs. On the other hand, it's possible Man U had absentees too that I forget at two decades' remove.

I also believe they need to hire Zidane to take it to the next level in Europe. Great minds think alike.

Incredible the ignorance of some people. It's all out there, there's tons of books on soccer history, historical games available everywhere, plenty of websites to learn stuff.
