I think the "year off the ELC" discussion is so ridiculous in 2021. Like is that really a reason Anaheim would hurt their NHL roster right now, because of a contract that is going to expire years down the road. You play your best players, period.

Plus, half the time the players really explode in year 4 and the second contract is more of a bargain.
