The Russia and Kazakhstan teams are usually from the KHL's equivalent of the AHL.

The Russian team is now 25% KHL, 25% KHL experienced and 50% VHL (their AHL). Totally stacked.

My tweet - Great showing for TC MHKY vs a team with one 3rd Rd Draft pick (Bogdan Yakimov - '13 Oilers), 5 regular KHL'ers including a KHL starting goalie (Serebryakov from Vladivostok) and 8 more with 55 KHL games played this season #uCAN

The Russian's really want to win this event

College Hockey Inc. needs to get USA Hockey to start taking this event seriously and stop sending the club clowns. The United States could win this tournament, but we send Tier IV college players. What a joke.

A good showing for Team Canada with the team they had. The round-robin loss to KAZ was the key game for Team Canada as it resulted in a semi-final matchup with RUS. They might have gotten by Slovakia, for a chance at Gold but they needed to win the group. KAZ lost to SVK in the first semi (4-0). KAZ outshot their opponent 47-21 (21 shots in the 3rd period), but couldn't score. They're starter was pulled after the 3rd goal. The backup was solid - the 4th goal was an EN.

TC's rematch vs KAZ was the opposite of their round-robin game - KAZ had gotten out to a 3 goal lead in the first game - CAN got out to a 2-goal lead of their own in the Bronze game.

March 2 - CAN vs GBR - (W) 12-0
March 4 - CAN vs LAT - (W) 6-1
March 6 - CAN vs SUI - (W) 6-2
March 8 - CAN vs SWE - (W) 11-1
March 9 - CAN vs KAZ - (L) 3-4

Semi's - March 11 - #B2 CAN (1) vs #A1 RUS (5)
Semi's - March 11 - #B1 KAZ (0) vs #A2 SVK (4)
Medals - March 12 - Bronze: #B2 CAN (3) - #B1 KAZ (0)
Medals - March 12 - Gold: #A1 RUS (2) - #A2 SVK (1)

The rematch didn't workout for SVK who lose twice to RUS - both games were 2-1.

1 - RUS
2- SVK
3 - CAN :thumbu:
4 - KAZ

It wasn't a poor showing for Team USA, which has been blown out in this event in the past. 4th place in the 'Pool of Death' is a solid finish - but the program needs to send a much strong team if they want to contend for a medal.

HUN & JPN were cannon fodder. You have to defeat two of RUS, SVK and CZE who are all strong programs to reach top 2 in the group and advance.

March 1 - USA vs CZE - (L) 4-1, shots 28 to 27 for USA.
March 3 - USA vs HUN - (W) 8-1
March 5 - USA vs RUS - (L) 2-3, shots 50 to 26 for RUS
March 5 - USA vs SVK - (L) 3-6, shots 35 to 27 for SVK
March 9 - USA vs JPN - (W) 3-1

A nugget I just noticed in the game summary: Canada and Acadia D Garrett McFadden played less than 3 minutes in the bronze medal game, all in the first period. This, after leading the team in TOI in Canada's previous two games (23:54 vs Russia in the semis, 26:00 vs KAZ in the round robin finale).
One has to assume he was injured early in the bronze medal game. Hope he's OK; he's got multi-year All-Canadian potential. Also, big ups to Team Canada for weathering the storm on the back end
