Outside of the big two in Hughes/Smith, I think I'm most interested in seeing some more of Boqvist, Schmid, and Clarke.looks like Anderson switched numbers
Doubtful, I'd think. It could even be in deference to a likely spot on Bing's roster.Joey Anderson being allowed to change his number isn't that surprising, but Colton White?
Does this indicate the staff can see him competing for a roster spot, or am I reading too much into it?

Can’t wait to see Hughes and Smith but I’ll be keeping a close eye on McLeod, Gignac and Clarke.
McLeod has to impress, his time is now. If he can’t separate himself from other rookies on our roster, he’s bound to get moved or stay in Binghamton for a while.
I’m a big fan of Gignac and I think he’ll impress in this years rookie tournament. I like his all around game and hopefully we’ll see him crack the big club in the next couple of years.
As for Clarke, I think he’s going to explode this season. He had a fantastic playoff run and I can see him taking that next step this year.
In my opinion, McLeod is in danger of basically being relegated to being a Full-time AHL'er if he doesn't show the coaching staff....SOMETHING.
I think McLeod is in danger of being dropped by the Devils if he doesn't finally step it up this year, but by no means would that end his NHL hopes, there will be plenty of teams willing to give him a shot and hope they strike gold. His speed will get him plenty of chances.
Why would the team even be thinking about cutting ties after this season? He scored at basically a 50 point pace in his first AHL season and there’s some evidence that he struggles severely early on at each new level of play.
He’s not blowing the doors off but he seems to be developing each year. For all we know the Devils agree that his learning curve is steep and so they let him play out the year in the NHL next year because they still think positively about him.
No way he's competing for a roster spot right now with 8 guys ahead of him on the depth chart. That could change with a trade, but that's really risky given the lack of depth on D in Bing. However, White is a clear favorite as the #9 defenseman in the organization and could jump up a spot on the depth chart if Smith is surprisingly returned to Spokane.
Devils had 13 defensemen play for the big club last season. Granted, some of that was driven by a lost season and giving guys like White, Jacobs and Murphy a cup of coffee at the big level. But still, I would think most teams utilize more than 8 defensemen throughout the course of a season, so there's probably a good chance of seeing White up with the big team at some point this season.
Might as well change his number given the lack of options beyond him, so not like that #2 is getting claimed by anyone else anytime soon. It's also a nice vote of confidence from the team in White's game and how far he progressed last season.

He's also under contract for next season, so how are they just "dropping" him unless it's a giveaway trade?
Season can't start soon enough...
