That got close at the end. Best score all day was -2. Koepka smash couldn’t overpower the wind.

It’ll go down on his record as a major victory, so it’s still 4 in 8 for him, but all it would’ve required was a -2 final two rounds from the 5’s going into Saturday to get into a playoff. The tournament wasn’t over after two rounds, like everyone thought.

The course was probably unfair today to have that type of rough with firmed up greens with 20 MPH winds. Is it good golf to watch players be unable to hit wedges within 10 feet because they can’t stop the ball? If you hit a good shot, you shouldn’t be penalized. And you can’t hit low shots on most of these holes, so on some holes there’s no way to get it close with wind like this.

He's not exactly shed the "only plays well in majors" label. There is no precedent in golf history for someone with this kind of career who is average in non-majors, but great in majors.
I've been thinking for awhile that there might be a player like this coming along sooner or later
the non-majors don't matter, they just don't
the post-Tiger's prime era in golf has ensured that the money is not a factor [50th on the money list makes 3+ million without any endorsements, etc]
why care about the greater hartford open or the wells fargo tourny in Charlotte? build yr game and yr schedule to compete at your best and most rested 4 times a year. the rest of the year is peanuts...

Its not surprising that someone might have that mindset, but how does it happen? Does Koepka tell himself he's going to miss a putt at the Honda Classic that he wouldn't miss at the US Open?

Koepka has said that he doesn't practice at home. He only practices when at a tournament. It could be that before a major he'll practice a lot, and his real talent level is actually very high and would see him be the clear best in the world if he practiced regularly before non-majors.

I can't recall what book I read it in [nor the golfer involved] but some pro always bragged to his buddies and his caddy that he never touched a club in the offseason. His caddy didn't believe him. Upon parting ways at the last tournament of the season, his caddy put a banana in with his driver under the club cover. At the first tourny of the year, the pro steps up to the tee box, his caddy goes to pull out his driver and out comes a disgusting mess of a driver covered in a gloppy spoiled banana.

I don't profess to know Koepka's mindset, but it fully seems that the non-majors are indeed practice rounds for him and the majors are the real deal, somehow. It's pretty remarkable.

Here’s a good question: who’s career would you rather have up to this point - Brooks Koepka or Dustin Johnson.

DJ is obviously much more consistent, been world number one for a lot longer and has won on every level, while Koepka’s peak is much more dominant and he performs significantly better at majors. This is a tough one until either DJ starts winning more majors or Brooks starts winning more regular events along with sustaining his success at majors
