So I decide on a lark to go to a Brooklyn Cyclones game today...leave at 4, a trip that should take one hour takes two, I get there in the middle of the second inning after barely finding a parking spot (a good one though, albeit a little down the street), then THIS happens after the fifth inning

Fog, really? When did Brooklyn become Scotland Yard?

bummed out about not getting down to Hank Aaron Stadium to see the BayBears in their last year, but i hope to see the TrashPandas(still feel dumb saying this every time) in their inaugural season.

last game of the year for me was Round Rock vs Memphis so at least i got to see Kyle Tucker and Dylan Carlson to wrap up the season.

It is a perfectly fine stadium, nothing really sets it apart from any other minor league stadium you goto, open concourse, two decks, and you can walk around the entire stadium. Benefits from its surroundings in a major city(for MiLB), pleniful close parking, things to do before and after the game within blocks(unlike say, Tennessee Smokies) . Tickets are reasonable and plentiful, crowds are mediocre during the week. One thing I didnt like was with the addition of 901 FC, the Redbirds portion of the team shop really got cut down in size by half.

Next year ( presuming nothing changes as the Redbirds have played their last home game), if you want Memphis, stop by the first stand on the 3rd base side and get an order of the pulled pork nachos. 11 bucks gets you nachos, lots of pulled pork, cheese, bbq sauce, and "magic dust".

My stadium breakdown was:
AZP: 4 games
Regions Field: 2 games
Blue Wahoos Stadium: 1 game(first game here)
Tennessee Smokies: 1 game
AT&T Field (Chattanooga): 1 game

Disappointed by the lack of Hank Aaron Stadium farewell trip and no games at MGM Park, Louisville Slugger or First Tennessee.

The playoff are set but the Florida State League (high-A) cancelled the playoffs a few days ago due to the hurricane, which in hindsight looks silly as none of the teams who made the playoffs would have been affected by the storm as they are all western Florida teams. Anyway, AAA, AA and A+ are best of 5, the lowest levels are best of 3. Triple-A has the "national championship" game between the champs of the IL and PCL in mid-September. In the International League there is a one game tie-break to determine the champions of the north division and naturally its a Mets vs. Yankees matchup :D Just based on playoffs the Rays organization the most impressive with their teams from AAA-A all made the playoffs, Giants with a decent number as well

The Bulls backed tail-first into the playoffs. For a good bit of the season they led the IL South and then got cold while Gwinnett and then Charlotte warmed up. Yesterday was a "win and you're in" game for the Bulls but they ended up losing 8-5 to Gwinnett (and for a good while there, it looked like it was going to be a shutout for the Stripers as they had a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th before we put out first run on the board...heck it took us 3 innings to even get a runner on base!). Quite a few fans stuck around as they were broadcasting the call of the Norfolk-Charlotte game as it went into extra innings. Had Charlotte won, Durham would have been knocked out and Charlotte going to the playoffs.

And it'll be Durham vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The RailRiders came back from being 7 runs down in the 8th to beating Syracuse 14-13.

Speaking of ups (and downs), final attendance numbers for affiliated teams are out. Let's take a gander at them. Please note that for teams that changed markets (Amarillo, Fayetteville, Rocky Mountain, and San Antonio) the 2018 numbers come from their previous market (San Antonio, Buies Creek, Helena, and Colorado Springs, respectively). Riding off the success of the new Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin, the Aviators have taken the crown for best attended MiLB team this season.

Dunedin was low because their stadium is under construction and were playing games in a neutral venue, but ever since moving to FL I notice attendances at these games are very low with exception of Daytona compared to when I was going to Lakewood and Trenton games when even midweek they were drawing 3-4K

Not surprising Mobile brought up the rear for AA and that Jackson was next to last

Dead teams walking seldom do well in the standings. New Orleans also at the back of the pack for Triple-A. Heck, look at the Florida Fire Frogs for further fuel. Alliteration aside though, I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson's the team that ends up relocating to New Orleans to fill the gap left by the relocation of their Triple-A team to Wichita.

Did you hear about how the southern league commissioner said New Orleans is not in the SL footprint Baseball in New Orleans in dire need of an angel

Considering the extent that the Southern League's footprint has changed in my lifetime alone, I'll be a little hesitant to take that as a definitive statement. Beyond that, I think New Orleans fits better into the SL footprint than, say, the Texas League. For funsies:

Biloxi, MSBirmingham, ALChattanooga, TNJackson, TNJacksonville, FLKodak, TNMadison, ALMontgomery, ALPearl, MSPensacola, FL
New Orleans, LA97.6 miles351 miles499 miles474 miles555 miles628 miles440 miles317 miles182 miles210 miles
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Thus, the average from New Orleans to the rest of the SL markets (including Jackson, just for the purposes of this exercise) is 375.36 miles. Now compare to the Texas League.

Amarillo, TXCorpus Christi, TXFrisco, TXMidland, TXNorth Little Rock, ARSpringdale, ARSpringfield, MOTulsa, OK
New Orleans, LA863 miles549 miles518 miles839 miles422 miles615 miles673 miles650 miles
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

And the average distance to the Texas League's markets is 628.63 miles.

Biloxi, MSBirmingham, ALChattanooga, TNJackson, TNJacksonville, FLKodak, TNMadison, ALMontgomery, ALPearl, MSPensacola, FL
New Orleans, LA97.6 miles351 miles499 miles474 miles555 miles628 miles440 miles317 miles182 miles210 miles

And the average distance to the Texas League's markets is 628.63 miles.
From what i have read The fanbase in new Orleans really dislikes Lou Schwechheimer and He holds the rights to New Orleans until the end of 2020 so they can not do anything without his ownership groups approval until then.

The Connecticut Tigers (Short Season-A, New York-Penn League) are going to be changing their name next season. The finalists and the explanation of their names:

  • Norwich Golden Roses - The Golden Roses pays tribute to Norwich’s history as “The Rose of New England” which led to the moniker of The Rose City. Norwich was known as a center of wealth, commerce and influence. Immigrants coming to the area were told the streets were “paved in gold”. In fact, in 1959 a small street was actually paved in tar with gold flakes during the city’s 300th anniversary celebration.
  • Norwich Mill Mules - The Mill Mules celebrates Norwich’s rich textile history. Large mills sprang up along the three rivers that flow into the city in neighborhoods such as Taftville, Occum, Yantic and Greeneville which all became “mill towns” where hardworking citizens turned raw materials and goods arriving at Norwich Harbor into good ole American products.
  • Norwich Narwhals - The Narwhals is a tribute to the Unicorn of the Sea, allegedly seen by merchant sailors as they sailed to and from Chelsea Landing at the Norwich harbor, bringing goods across the Atlantic to and from the city. Whether real or imagined, these creatures helped fuel the legend of the Norwich ship captain.
  • Norwich Salty Dogs - The Salty Dogs celebrates the city’s legendary seafaring captains, and the gritty “tough as nails” attitude the community embraces. A salty dog is a nickname for a sailor who has spent much of his or her life aboard a ship at sea. Many of the buildings still standing from this era in the Norwich harbor area bear a plaque with the names of these captains that once called them home.
  • Norwich Sea Unicorns - The Sea Unicorns is a tribute to the mythical sea creatures and lore that legendary Norwich sea captains would see and experience during their travels. These captains were known for their skill in avoiding imperial taxation during peacetime and later at eluding warships during war but would also bring back to Norwich tall tales of close encounters with mythical creatures along the way.
Interesting that they're going back to "Norwich" as the geographic portion of the name. The last team to do that were the Double-A Norwich Navigators, who changed their name to the Connecticut Defenders in 2006 before relocating to Richmond, VA to become the Flying Squirrels. The Navigators had one of my (least) favorite logos in MiLB at the time:
