I will make a thread everyday until we have determined the top 30 prospects according to Leaf fans on HFBoards for I think my 10th straight year. The criteria for a prospect will be loosely based on Calder eligibility. There may be a couple that slip through the cracks the first few posts because I am not perfect. Also please let me know if I have someone listed that is no longer with us, or any omissions. Comprehensive prospect lists are a little harder to find than you'd think this time of year.

Rankings:

1. Rasmus Sandin -- 68.3%
2. Timothy Liljegren -- 87.4%
3. Jeremy Bracco -- 60.7%
4. Nicholas Robertson -- 40.5%
5. Trevor Moore -- 32.9%
6. Ilya Mikheyev -- 24%

Now that he'll be with the Marlies full time, I hope more pay attention to Jesper Lindgren; another Swedish gem waiting to happen. With he Duszak and Liljegren in the pipeline, that Right Handed Defenseman conundrum we've had for years, may be a thing of the past.

So without most having even seen Mikheyev play, he's a better prospect than Ian Scott, who was goaltender of the year and playoff MVP?

Both Woll and Scott are amongst our best prospects.

Does he even count as a Leafs prospect?
The guy signed a minor league contract with the Marlies.
Could any other team sign him to an ELC right now?

Other teams can offer him an ELC, but the Leafs get the first chance to match it.

Lots of people who love Brazeau.

The case for Justin Brazeau

Brazeau underwent a massive growth spirt, and like a lot of large players, its taken him a little time to adapt to his body.

Since 1995-1996 Only 10 other players have scored 60 goals. To see whether this was significant or not, I thought I'd look into it a bit deeper. Bottom line is, there are certainly other players that reached 60 goals that didn't pan out... however the common denomenator tends to be that they had a lot more support around them. Brazeau scored 32! more points than his next highest scoring teammate. Of the players that scored significantly more than their teammates (>20P), they ALL went on to play 500+ games in the NHL. Tavares is the only 60G scorer that had a higher point differential with his teammates.

Other players to reach this feat:
Dane Fox (U21): 2013/14
67GP 64G 107P
2nd on team scoring behind Connor Brown (128P). McDavid also had 99P.
Erie was the 2nd best team in the OHL.

Reid Boucher (U20): 2012/13
68GP 62G 95P
2nd on team scoring behind Charlie Sarault (108P). Goldobin and Galchenyuk also on the team.

Alex DeBrincat (U20): 2016/17
63GP 65G 127P
18 more points than next highest scorer, on a team with D. Strome that went on to win the OHL championship.

Brett MacLean (U20): 2007/08
61GP 61G 119P
1 more than Tavares, Del Zotto also on the team.

Patrick Kane (U19): 2006/07
58GP 62G 145P
16 more points than the next scorer

John Tavares (U18): 2006/07
67GP 72G 134P
34 more points than next scoerer

Chad LaRose (U21): 2002/03
67GP 61G 117P
29 more points then next teammate

Matt Foy (U20): 2002/03
68GP 61P 132P
2nd on team scoring behind Corey Locke (151P) that was 2nd best team in the OHL.

Corey Locke (U19): 2002/03
66GP 63P 151P
19 more points than next teammate, had 2nd best team in the OHL.

Randy Rowe (U21): 2000/01
63GP 64G 102P
3rd on team scoring behind Wellwood (118P) and Radivojevic (104P)

So the players that did it at his age are larose and Rowe, and they did it without the benefit of size which is a much bigger advantage in CHL than it is in NHL. I’m not seeing the appeal when it comes to just breaking down the scoring stats alone.

This is just one case for Brazeau...

LaRose was a good NHLer and Rowe had a lot more support on his team. I disagree about size being a bigger advantage in the CHL, especially in today's league where skill and speed is more important (even at the CHL level too).

But when you factor in that Brazeau hasn't really ever had trainers and skills coaches and stuff, this guy really has potential to skyrocket.

The only concerns with Brazeau is his skating ,and whether his mind can keep up with his speed when it improves. I'll take the bet that it will.

Brazeau is getting massively underrated here IMO.

There's a reason he's on an AHL contract and wasn't offered an ELC from any of 31 teams last year.

Technically, he's not even a Leafs prospect.

The Athletic ranked the Leaf prospects and wouldn't include him for the reasons stated above.

I'm not sure where I heard this, I'll dig around and try and find the source... but I thought there were a couple ELCs on the table, but he elected to sign the AHL to be developed by Toronto. Brazeau's agent was sold when Dubas re-afirmed him stating "If this guy doesn't play a game for the Toronto Maple Leafs, then we've failed".

Makes sense. He'd have had to sign a 3 year ELC anyways, and now when his AHL deal is done, he can sign for two, IIRC.

By The Athleteic's definition... Didn't they have a statement that he'd be top 10 if they considered him a prospect?
