This is your classic "Everything management does is great, but everything in my imagination that this board does is terrible" post.

Maybe I’d agree a bit more with the premise of the post you quoted if his franchise wasn’t dogshit for the past 10 years.

Coached by a hockey Neanderthal that turned watching the product into something nearly equivalent to torture.

Weise was promoted over him... after he had 8pts in his last 7 games...

Lindblom usage:
3 games: 10:13, 8:40, 9:12
8 games: averaged 14:01 - 8 points
5 games (11/15-11/24): averaged 11:38 - 0 points
17 games (11/27-1/5): averaged 9:08 - 1 point

JVR returned on 11/15

Weise:
10/27-11/13 - 8 games: 14:37 - 4 points
11/15-11/24 - 5 games: 13:08 - 0 points
11/27-1/5 - 18 games: 11:40 - 5 points

Weise averaged 1:33 on the PK, Lindblom 0:48
Lindblom 1:05 on the PP, Weise 0:06

So exactly what I said.

He had 8pts in 7 games... but was relegated to the #10-11 fwd after that. Behind Dale Weise, Jordan Weal, etc, etc at 5v5. Who had not been as good to start the season.

And shock horror, he could not score in sub-10 mins a night with at least one AHLer on his line.

The 3/4 EV points Weise got between November and January came with Giroux, JvR, Jake on ice... (the other came on a shift with Lindblom...)

In the 9 games after Lindblom is promoted to top 9 regularly again?

3g, 6pts.

From 10/1 to seasons end?

39gp, 13g, 8a, 21p over 40pt pace. Almost identical pace as he was on at game 18 when relegated after a v.good stretch of play...

How exactly does someone like Hakstol decide to go into coaching? Couldn't think of anything else?

I'm going to refrain from using any judgy words, but, well, he's just not the personality type. That's a very social, very gregarious occupation, always dealing with the boys, constant harassment and chatter from players and opponents, co-workers, constant social interactions with fans, media, sponsors -- it's not a job where you can just retire to the solitude of the study and look for patterns in the data. There has to be a steady flow of communication. Has to be.

It's also unscientific, lots of judging mood and morale, best attempts at psychology for motivation. Hak's a stoneface. And not a curious one. Maybe his in-laws gave him the nudge and called in a favor? To get him out of the house?

But note that both players' minutes steadily declined after JVR returned from injury.
This is the old "fit" problem, once JVR came back both players ended up in the bottom six, after Couts, G, Voracek, JVR, TK, Simmonds.
And the bottom six shuffled around Patrick, Weal, Laughton, Lindblom, Weise, Raffl, Lehtera.
Lindblom - 377 minutes with Couts, 285 with Patrick, 71 minutes with Laughton, 63 with Weal, 34 with Lehtera.
So even when Lindblom was demoted, it was mostly playing with Patrick at center.
Weise - 107 minutes with Laughton, 59 with Lehtera, 16 with both, 58 minutes with Patrick, 85 minutes with Varone, 92 minutes with Weal
