Because the Blues were bigger, stronger, and more physical plus their D core of Pietrangelo, Parayko, and Bouwmeester made scoring against them very very difficult.

That Caps team under Trotz played a very similar style. I'm not positive, but I believe they were one of the largest teams in the league as well.

I think game breaking talent is the difference here.
