That time a year folks. Another rankings! This Coach rankings has been a annual tradition here at HFBoards now so lets get it started! Got to by Laviolette in my mind. He coaches his teams with a new age style play that will lead them to a lot of success eventually. And he plays the younsters(!!!!!)which Trotz refused to do which is why I put him ahead of Barry.

What?

Trotz just won a cup. Laviolette = ZERO CUPS

Trotz regardless of me being an Islander fan. He was always one of my favorite coaches in the league and the fact that he won a cup with Washington, this ones pretty easy. Only other coach I'd consider is Gallant for making that team full of NHL rejects into a Stanley Cup contender.

Such a difficult thing to measure. Assuming we're voting on which coach had the best season then the answer should be unanimously Gallant. But if we're voting on who the best coach is I see no reason for this to have changed over the last few seasons. The general consensus before Babcock left Detroit was that he was the best coach in the league. He gets picked to coach Team Canada in every single best-on-best tournament over Quennville. Since then all he's done is turn a dead last team into a legit cup contender in 3 short seasons. Until he does something to lose that title he earned he's still got my vote.

How do you go against Gallant after this last season? We will find out this year if it’s a fluke or not that Vegas did so well, but I think they owe a huge share of their success to the coach.

For some reason HFBoards only allows 30 options even tho theres 31 teams now
I'm absolutely shocked that you selected him as the one to leave out over guys who have never even been a head coach before or never had a winning season. Shocked I tell you!

Seems like Trotz, Babcock and Quenville are the 'big 3' now with Gallant making his way there.

Not necessarily saying he deserves any votes for number one, but Bruce Cassidy pretty much turned the entire ship around for the Bruins 2 years ago and has a record of 68-27-13

He'll probably get overlooked for a bit but if we're really voting Gallant purely off recent success Cassidy should be top 5 as well

If I could choose any coach, it would not be the one who puts Ryan Reaves on the ice in a 6-on-5 situation in the Stanley Cup Finals.

The only answer here is Mike Sullivan. You have to go back and watch the 2016 Penguins if you disagree with me. That defense was mediocre on paper outside of Letang and yet they completely shut down every team they played against because of an excellent system put in place by Sullivan. Then he won the Cup again in 2017, albeit under much luckier circumstances, without Kris Letang. Imagine winning the Cup with Brian Dumolin and Ron Hainsey as your top pair. Mike Sullivan did that.

Mike Sullivan for me, wouldn't trade him for any coach in the league. The way he was able to change the pens style in 2017 due to injuries and still repeat as champions was absolute genius.
