Following the approval from the ten member national associations, the World Juniors in Buffalo will be played with defending champion United States, Canada, Denmark, Slovakia and Finland seeded in Group A while Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Belarus will play in Group B. The tournament dates are 26 December 2017 to 5 January 2018.

The top-four teams from each group will make it to the quarter-finals played cross-over while the last-ranked team will play in the best-of-three relegation round.

The 19,070-seat KeyBank Center, home of the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres, will serve as the main venue for the event with twenty-three games including three of the four quarter-final games, the semi-final and medal games. The smaller HarborCenter will host seven games.

For the first time ever, the IIHF World Junior Championship will include an outdoor game as part of the preliminary round as the game - United States vs Canada on 29 December will take place at the 71,608-seat New Era Field, home stadium of the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills. The venue hosted the 2008 NHL Winter Classic between the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It will be the second time an IIHF game will be hosted in a football stadium after the Germany vs United States opening game of the 2010 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship that took place in front of 77,803 fans in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, which set a new world record at that time.

While the time of the outdoor game on 29 December is to be determined, the time slots for all other games have been defined.

The International Ice Hockey Federation today announced the schedule for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will take place Tuesday, December 26, 2017 - Friday, January 5, 2018, in Buffalo, New York. The United States which looks to defend gold on home ice after winning the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Toronto, Canada and Montreal, Canada, was placed in Group A alongside Canada, Denmark, Finland and Slovakia.

United States will begin preliminary-round play against Denmark on December 26 and have a day off before back-to-back games against Slovakia on December 28 and Canada on December 29. The matchup against rival Canada will be held outdoors at New Era Field, home of the National Football League Buffalo Bills.

The United States will then close its preliminary-round action against Finland on December 31. Besides the outdoors matchup vs Canada, all of Team USA's preliminary round games will be played at KeyBank Center.

The quarterfinal round is scheduled for January 2 and the semifinals will take place on January 4. The bronze-medal and gold-medal games will be held on January 5. Three of the four quarterfinals, the two semifinals, and two medal games will be played at KeyBank Center. (LaxSabre - The other quarterfinal is scheduled for HarborCenter.)

That jersey is awful. Essentially a hockey version of the Bills jersey? Please, USA Hockey, reverse course and wear one of the traditional USA jerseys.

Oh, thanks for the heads up! :shakehead

They could've done some nods to the Bills on the jersey without making USA Hockey sweaters into near replicas of an NFL jersey. Same shade of blue? Fine. Numbers on the back the same style as the Bills? Fine. Name lettering font the same? Fine. The numbers on the front completely ruins this. It minimizes the USA logo, as well. This is putrid, and I hope they catch a ton of flak for it and change course.

That jersey is gross

When does individual ticket info come out? All I see so far are packages. I just want to go to the outdoor game and maybe one or two others.

It is for one game, but I did have to double check the timestamp of that tweet for a 4/1/17 date. The numbers are terrible. It's not a USA hockey jersey without a crest on the front. It looks like an ebay mashup you'd find from China and buy as a $6 joke.

For a one game outing they're perfectly fine. It's a fun tie-in, who cares.

Im alarmed that they would dare tempt date by wearing a bills jersey, though
