I'm amazed at how much his game has matured since landing in NJ. The Devils version Hall is far superior to the Oilers version, for whatever reason.

He was a threat almost every shift I watched him play this season. That certainly wasn't the case in Edmonton.

That's silly, and you know it deep down. Stop being silly.
There are however one or two Oilers fans here who will talk down and say it was good to trade a heart-and-soul, young, 80-90 point winger for Adam Larsson.

mackinnon had him by points by little bit, both carried their teams but hall really carried them, avs had a 80 and 60 point players, closest for hall was a 50 point rookie, that gave him that tiny edge

Sure it was the same. Hall finished 6th in scoring in the league with the Oilers just like he did this season with the Devils.

People just try to rewrite reality to fit a narrative.
The same. Right.

Tell me about his Hart-worthy seasons as an Oiler.

As a season ticket holder.seeing all edmonton home games.....Taylor seemed frustrated. Then we got Mcdavid. As good as Taylor was...Edmonton did not progress. (lots of factors..coaches..etc.). The change did him well ..motivation and I am happy for him. It is easy to say ...we lost a trade but how many years did Taylor have to be the guy? Never happened in Edmonton. Perhaps we should have been patient...not sure but I do like Larsson . Perhaps we see Lucic resuface as a dominate player next year?
Cheers

Yeah I can understand that. Sounds identical to the Kessel situation. I use to live in Edmonton so I'm always cheering on the sidelines (even though I live in Calgary now....)

Cheers!

a 2nd pairing defensive Dman has much more value than a 93 point Hart winner
This is so wrong though. Clearly I'm being baited, but Hall never put up numbers close to that, nor was he inclined to throw the team on his back when he was in Edmonton.

Oiler Hall and NJ Devil Hall are two astronomically different players.

Also no, I'm not defending the trade.

Hall was PPG once as an Oiler, his season high was 80 points.

He was not the same player in Edmonton.

I don't think that the first part is quite true. Hall was traded as a 24 year old who had previously put up a stretch of 130 points in 120 games over two seasons. That's about an 89 point pace. The offensive ability and upside was always there for him, and that's why even at the time of the trade it was so heavily criticized. The biggest difference is that Hall has drastically improved his overall game and I'll concede that, but the ability to perform at a very high level offensively was always there

Lots of athletes have the raw ability to do very well at their craft. Lots of them also lack the mental game to truly put it all together. Hall was never going to be the MVP he is today as an Oiler. The fault is with the franchise as much as with him, but going to Jersey forced him to grow up mentally and that just wasn't happening in Edmonton. Two totally different players.

The most value.....FOR THEIR TEAM, you mean.

That's why Hall won.

The only people that should have a gripe are Avs fans since it was so close.

Anyone else is just whining for the sake of whining.

the team part of that sentence is nothing more than meaningless fluff though

value is something you have a certain amount of that can be expressed numerically

if someone has "100 value" they provide 100 value to their team whether that team is the 1977 Canadians or the 1992 Sharks

if you have a 100 value player on the 1977 Canadians and a 80 value player on the 1992 Sharks the former is providing 100 value to their team and the latter is providing 80 value to their team

switch the team they're on and the 100 value player is still providing 100 value to his team and the 80 value player is still providing 80 value to his team, because that's the amount of value that they have

You're thinking about this WAY TOO HARD, Ricky. Stop it. :headache:

Hall won the award because he was the Most Valuable Player on his team and without him, his team MISSES the playoffs.

That's all there is to it.

(well....THAT....and his insane Point-streak....as well as doing what he did with Far less talent than Mack had. o_O )

Should have been MacKinnon. Without him they're another lottery team this past season.

Without Hall NJ misses the playoffs, but not in the basement.

Flame away :dunno:

MacKinnon went on a cold streak in the last 15ish games of the season while Hall was absolutely lighting up the league, almost single-handedly winning games while the Devils were still trying to clinch. It really could have gone to either player but MacKinnon slumped at a bad time.

Hall was destroying right at the end of the year so it was fresh in the minds of voters as well which probably tipped the scales in his favour. Either player could have won it, I don't see why anyone would complain about either player getting the award

The Devil's also drafted 1st overall last year, and lost their starting goalie for the lionshare of the season. Without Hall they would have been alot worse, there's no question.

McDavid will likely win the Hart several more times in his career, so I don't think he got "screwed". Neither did any of the probably half dozen players who could make legitimate Hart cases this year. There really was no obvious favorite this year. If that makes it "weak" whatever. I doubt in 10 years most people are going to give a shit about what the Hart field looked like in 2017-18, only who actually won the thing.

Notice : MOST VALUABLE TO....HIS.....TEAM.

I noticed those here whining about Hall not being the LEAGUE'S Most Valuable Player.

Well there you go, everyone!

NOW EVERYONE CAN STOP WHINING ABOUT IT!!

He has some of the worst hockey sense of top six forwards in the league, but an extremely high level of athleticism.

He’s been doing the same stuff for nearly ten years now. Screaming down the wing and looking for a cut post blue line to the net. If he doesn’t have that he either makes a terrible drop/float pass or throws it on net.

I won’t deny his natural athleticism or ability to post points, but Taylor hall does not elevate the players around him.

I'm just shocked at how many knocks there are on hall's hockey iq and playmaking ability.
He was a brilliant playmaker this season, an absolute monster on the puck and by all accounts and excellent teammate. He said all the right things this year and was beloved in locker room and front office.
Not even a top 40 player in the league? This is just nuts. If you want the art ross/Mcdavid to win the hart then i'm not sure you can say 6th overall in points is not a top 40 player...

Now, I think you can easily argue Mak, Kop, McD, hell even G to win the hart.
But lets not throw Hall down a hole because we didn't agree he should win the award.

Also...another ridiculous narrative...Hall has NOT whined for two years since being traded. Yes he was very upset he was traded because he cared deeply ...!? So, do you not want your players to care about their respective organizations?
Well into his first season here you didn't hear anything anymore about the Oilers and we haven't heard anything since. He doesn't give crap about Edmonton anymore. So everyone stop with the Taylor is a whiner junk. Guy is just passionate and as a Devs fan, I frankly love it. I think most of you would too if he was on your team. Stop hating.
