Scouting Reports
HockeyProspect Black Book
Linus Karlsson was one of the top point producers in the SuperElit, even though he was on a team that had the fewest wins in the regular season. He produced an impressive 52 points in 47 games, including 27 goals in the regular season.

In the playoffs, he had 4 points in 6 games. Due to his impressive play, he was called up to Karlskrona’s primary team, generating an assist in 13 games. He traveled to Switzerland to compete at the U19’s, where he produced 6 points in 4 games.

Karlsson is a cerebral two-way center, who was used in all situations this past season.
He’s a natural thinker on the ice, tactically putting himself in position before the play unfolds, both with and away from the puck. His defensive-game and effort level are second-to-none. We watched him take away several high-end scoring chances from opposing teams, showing an advanced 200-foot game. Despite having a larger frame, Linus is able to stay undetected for the most part when attempting to strip players off pucks which is why he was so effective in our viewings of him. His maturity and understanding of where to be one the ice, allowed him to support his defenseman when they were engaged and set himself up for outlet passes routinely. Karlsson is a capable offensive-threat as well. His bread and butter is his shot. Both his wrist-shot and snap-shot come off his tape in a hurry and he’s capable of adjusting the angle while in motion. Arguably his best offensive-attribute is his composure and ability to find soft-ice. Just as he is in the defensive-zone, Karlsson has the unique ability of finding openings. If his shot is taken from him, he’s good at interpreting his teammates and setting them up for quality chances.

The last aspect of his offensive-game to note, is that he never seems rushed with the puck and can slow the game down. This should be highlighted, since he’s not an explosive skater and lacks separation speed. Instead he relies on his edges and intelligence to remain elusive when carrying the puck. Karlsson’s not going to take a crowd’s breath away with high-end puck skills or highlight-reel goals on most plays. Instead, using his intelligence on the ice to be a positive factor in all three-zones. Due to his intelligence and complete game, there’s a chance that Karlsson can develop in a quality depth-option at the pro levels.

Linus had a destructive year in the SuperElit, trailing only Jonatan Berggren in points with 52 in 42 games. He's sitting at a decent 6'1 size and 180 lbs, with this production, so why is he listed so down in most rankings? It seems to me like it's just a lack of exposure for Linus. He also doesn't have the best skating. His stride looks choppy and he looks to lack a bit of power, so hopefully he can fix it. Aside from the International U-19 juniors, he hasn't really seen any time in the spotlight. He posseses a nice wrist shot and a soft pair of hands as well as some creative passing skills/vision. He's very quick to make a move and has a quick stick and reactions. He'd be a good risk to take in the 4th round or so, hopefully fixing his skating could really elevate his game. He'll see a role increase in the SHL next year so expect a nice D1 season from him.
Potential: Middle Six Center
Possiblity: Unlikely

EliteProspects writeup
Good size and goal scoring ability. Has fine hands and overall offensive skills. Very good hockey sense and great character. (EP 2018)

Draftin Europe
Nice shot and combines that with his ability to read developing holes in the offensive zone.. quality game from faceoff dots to end-boards,

Maybe @Hinterland can shed some light on him?

I know he can be a polarizing poster, but he seems to be quite knowledgeable on the overseas players.

Mainly Swiss players or those who played some significant pro hockey. Can't really help you here. Numbers don't look impressive but for a Center he scored a lot as a junior. Only 13 games and one assist at the highest level. Not sure why the Sharks wanted him. Seems like an off the board pick to me. To compare, Kurashev is one heck of a player and went 120th overall.

But also this amazing scouting report on him:

CANUCKSARMY’S 2018 NHL DRAFT PROFILES: #81 Linus Karlsson

"Another number that jumps of the page is the GF%REL of +24.9% – which shows that when Karlsson wasn’t on the ice, the Karlskrona J20 team was struggling. His personal GF% isn’t great but given that his team had a -36 goal differential and the GF%Rel and INV% is so strong, it indicates that the offence was going through Karlsson and if he wasn’t on the ice, they weren’t scoring."

" GF% ... The raw numbers for Karlsson at 5v5 play this season were:
  • With him on the ice: 59% (+42/-29)
  • With him on the bench: 34% (+37/-71)"
