Regarding Carter not going to Ottawa, he doesn't have any trade protection with a No Trade or a No Movement.

Ottawa doesn't care about him as a player anyway. Wonder if we could send them Hanzal to get to the cap floor .

You could ... but Carter is superior because his salary is significantly lower than his hit. I think Ottawa would look at Hanzal as a salary dump and require assets in return.

The only exception would be if Hanzal's career is over, and the contract has insurance.

.... similar to Horton.

Pretty sure thats the case. Can't see him returning again.

Spezza emphatically stated he would not waive his NMC, and Polak is Dallas' 4th defender. Not saying he should be, but you don't trade your 4th defender in a playoff race. The goal would be to push him down to 5 or 6, but that's not likely possible anymore.

Also ... I posted this yesterday or so, but this was my thinking ....

Best value: Hintz
Better value: Faksa
Decent value: Janmark, Gurianov
Good value: Dickinson
Low value: Ritchie
Very low value: Honka
No value: Nichushkin

Shapiro said that Washington thought he was playing better, didn't like the offers, and probably weren't going to trade him.

Not to be picky, but I would switch Honka and Nuke on that list. At least they played Nuke most games and he did many non scoring things okay. Someone suggested we could get a 4th for Honka. If Jamie O is worth a 4, after regularly playing mid and low pairings in PIT, I can't see a lifetime scratch getting much more than a sixth. Nuke might get a 4th or 5th.

If nuke wasn’t getting paid what he is , he’d fetch a 4th or 5th. Right now you probably would have to pay a 4th or 5th to get a team to take him .

Nichuskins contract for next year is a problem for teams i would think. You take him you're on the hook him next year too.
