Players who made fewer than 5 ballots omitted as sample size becomes a distortive issue. Just compare the relative rankings of some of the defensemen here with their relative rankings in the defensemen table.

It's only about last season and I think Binnington and his team did well after all.

I think a lot of people missed the “last season” part then.

Otherwise why is Matthews above Gaudreau/Stamkos/Scheifele?

Why is Malkin anywhere close to as high as he’s ranked.

Wow Doughty at 10th after a down year for his team?

I guess the biggest thing is that he was only on 19 of 37 ballots but even Hedman who lead the field was missing from a ballot so who knows.

Even the Norris winner last year was missing from 4 ballots which is extremely hard to justify.

That's why I'm a huge fan of transparency in the actual voters for Norris, Hart ect....

I understand what the voters did but I think that THN got it right by listing him as their 6th best Dman in their recent top 50 players in the NHL.

The way voting works for Norris is that each voter ranks Dmen 1-5, if there was a 1-10 ranking doughty would have fared much better even with the horrible season the Kings had.

I think something as simple as having a decent partner this year (if they decide to keep Bjornfot) will propel Doughty back into a Norris type of season, even on a bad Kings team.

Very interesting that we leafs fans picked Rielly over Marner...in an obvious small sample size
